Office face lift

last year

I've got an office with minimal true wall space, lots of consecutive windows, and built ins.

There is no ceiling light so it is a blank canvas ceiling wise.

The desk is currently built in (see pictures), but I'd like to add another desk so that the cabinet/desk is to my back and I face the windows when working.

What on earth do I do with these windows, and the lack of ceiling light could lend itself to wallpaper potentially...

EAST WALL ^^

NORTH WALL ^^ (i'd like to paint this the same color as I end up painting the walls)

SOUTH WALL ^^

and then the west wall is a built in bookshelf and 2 french doors and a small wall (pictured in north wall pic)

I'm going with the south light as the default (because east light is fleeting). Lots of windows, but not much light. My choice would be B.M. Edgecomb Gray. Just keep furnishings, rugs, trim in the same warm tone.

I’m a bit confused— you have 2 walls with those great windows? The south wall & east wall - so at right angles to each other? East is morning light & South is afternoon until ??. You’re asking about window treatments? How about bottom up / top down blinds? Inside mounted. This would give you light control as well as view control - if you’re easily distracted & would be gazing out the windows you can use the top down setting so you see only the sky.

The one thing I woud change is the computer table/desk. Get something that matches the other L shaped desk...or guess you could bring in and use the table. I am thinking more of a desk with storage below...maybe a mate to the L shaped desk but just the desk part. Not sure but I think you could move the two file cabinets next to the beautiful safe and put your desk where the file cabinets are now. That way you would have a wall of desks and the file cabinet/safe would balance out the bookcase you have in there. Love your red chair.

I agree that I wouldn't put a lot $$ in this because the return won't be there. Pulling the paper down and a nice paint job plus a new light bar and maybe a new ceiling light (can't remember if you showed that) would really do wonders. It is a nice size and arrangement. On the shower surround, if you want to go that far to get rid of the brassy gold, go with another framed one to save money. They are much cheaper and they don't have the yuck traps in the doors anymore. You might be able to tape the one you have off and repaint it while you have the walls bare. You could always scrape the glass to get any paint off of it. There are some really nice metal finish paints out there that could update it. An oil rubbed bronze would be great but then you would need to change out the faucets. You can also paint your cabinet hardware! Just attach the knobs to a large piece of cardboard and spray paint. I would not go to the expense of a frameless shower door. Many don't like them.

I had a facelift at 50yo (6 years ago now) and would not suggest one at 80yo. For me, I didn't have wrinkles, but my eyes and jowls were starting to sag. My surgeon, now retired, is world renowned and one of the two original inventors of the microscopic brow lift. I look the same, only fresher and younger. One of my mother's healthcare companions yesterday asked me if I had any children. When I said they were in their late 20s and early 30s, and that I had 2 grandchildren she said she thought I would have toddlers. Most people can't believe I'm a grandmother. It's nice to hear, but I did it for myself. Now if only my hands looked better, but I'm not willing to do fillers (anywhere) especially when they are not longer lasting. My older sister had a facelift (same Dr) after me, and breast implants - he is also well known for breast cancer reconstruction surgery. She was 55yo when she had hers. If anyone is considering a facelift, or any kind of facial surgery, I would question whether or not they leave in tubes. My Dr did not. Mine was removed the morning after surgery. Recovery was easy. Sleeping in a recliner is best. I was no in pain, but I did swell and bruise a lot (fair skin). One of the benefits is not having a headache for over a year. I could not sleep on either side for awhile, and my left ear has a tiny bit of permanent numbness, but it's not painful and doesn't bother me.

Please list the functions this room needs to serve. Folks will also want to see a sketch of the room with dimensions including door and window locations. My family has a 60 year old small town glass shop. I understand where you're coming from and think it's great you're looking to redesign.

I do not understand what is going on. Please post a floor plan. I’d remove the miniblinds and use sheers to control the amount of light. Not understanding why you built a desk into the built in wall and also want another.

To allow more light to bounce around this room, do the following: Place just a few strategic mirrors on the walls (only if there is an interesting reflection). On side table and desktops, get glass tops. This may not seem important but when you have a lighting challenge, every little bit helps. As others have said, paint the walls a warm and light color. If you are able to, paint in a satin or semi gloss finish. Please do your thorough homework with the paint, as it's important to the atmosphere of the space. 6 Types of Paint Finishes: Flat Matte Eggshell Satin Semi-Gloss Gloss. Another thing you can do is (if this goes with your style) try to get accessories in a mirror or distressed mirror finish (such as a lamp base or picture frame).

It looks like you do have lots of windows, however you could easily get window treatments for them, add an overhead light or desk lighting and the decorate accordingly. We thought adding some of the home office designs we have done might help you figure out what you'd like to do.
