subscriibe to them on your iphone and they will be available wherever you go

Do you know which podcasts you want to download?

No ded I don't know. Figured there would be a "library" of various subjects available to choose from. Bragu, is subscribing free?

Some podcasts are free and some have a small subscription cost.

Most are free.

My favorites are from NPR: Wait Wait Don't Tell Me; Invisibilia; The Moth Radio Hour; Hidden Brain...They are all free.

I like A Way With Words. It's free.

Saying "I want to listen to podcasts" is like saying "I want to read a book" or "I want to watch TV". You need to first decide titles (the names) of what you want to listen to. There are tens of thousands of them though most (in my opinion) are pretty poor.

Do a search for "popular podcasts" or "podcasts about X" to see what choices may interest you. Write down the names.

Your iPhone has a Podcast app. Search for it. Enter the names of the podcasts that interest you, they will be downloaded. To listen you need earbuds/earphones (wired or wireless) or car audio system (bluetooth) to connect the phone to when the podcast app is playing them.

Thank you all for your help. Elmer, I usually don't limit my reading according to genre but like to expand my interests and I would think the same would be true for podcasts. I agree that some may be not to my taste but Im open to most anything since this will be new to me. I have earbuds so Im ready to get started.

This is what the Apple Podcast app icon looks like. It is probably already on your phone.

If no, go to the Apple store and download it.

Open the app and tap on the search icon (lower right corner). It will bring up this screen

From this screen you can search by name, by category, by topic, etc.

As you can see, I’m currently listening to A Way With Words. I also like Spectacular Vernacular. I enjoy cooking/food podcasts such as The Splendid Table and David Lebovitz. I am fascinated by the stories on Guy Raz’s How I Built This. Give Dolly Parton’s America a listen, too. The Points Guy has a podcast entitled Talking Points.

One word of warning, or at least it has been my experience, downloading podcasts eats up storage. I have a good data plan, so when traveling by car, I tend to stream instead of download.

Hey, I remembered there were a number of earlier threads asking for podcast recommendations that would likely be helpful:

https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/6267629/podcasts-any-favorites#n=17

https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5884141/favorite-podcasts#n=25

If you do a search for 'podcast', there are many threads that come up in the results.

And a couple I've recently started listening to and enjoying very much are Decoder Ring from Slate, andMichael Lewis' Against The Rules.

And yes, you should be able to use the Apple podcasts app to download and listen to podcasts.

Or, as suggested above, you can use your browser and go directly to many podcasts' websites and stream them.
