How many textures is too many textures?

I am looking to update this kitchen. My initial idea is painting the cupboards a deep green. I want to do something durable on the island "kick wall" which is where my creative brain starts to explode a little. I used these brick panels in my bedroom and became obsessed with them. So, with ceramic tile floors, marble counters and cantera accents......would adding brick to the game be too much texture? I would add it to the kick wall, the side of the fridge (broken out)

and maybe even cover the glass with it? The added challenge is not all the cabinets are contained in the kitchen.

Can you post the shade of green? Will you paint all the cabinets? I love your cabinets currently. Your space has so much personality. I am intrigued with it. What glass would you cover?

It’s not a texture issue. There is so much going on that it won’t matter if you add something else. There is a design process if you want an open, cohesive space where you can showcase your favorite pieces.

One of Everything confused or cluttered look is avoided by planting in drifts of few to many of each kind. In general best to have small numbers of large or bold (big-leaved) plants, many specimens of small or fine-textured (small-leaved) kinds - with intermediate numbers of medium-textured sorts. Lack of solidity addressed in your cold climate by using architectural features (fences, walls) and evergreen conifers to compensate for wispiness of deciduous shrubs and herbaceous perennials. In warmer climates plantings can be fleshed out with broad-leaved evergreen shrubs.

How many trees are too many?

Hi. I live in a new development. The only trees are along the old fence rows that once stood between cotton fields. Our lot was a bare 1 acre. I planted saplings/whips to save money and enjoy the growth. Here's what I have, and I'm pretty much at the limit. I have a septic system and had to leave that spot bare. Red Maple 4 Dawn Redwood 4 Bald Cypress 2 Weeping Willow 1 Sourwood 1 Crabapple 2 Washington Hawthorne 2 Giant Sequoia 1 (just an experiment, lol) Loblolly Pine 2 Smoketree 1 American Hazelnut 5 Cherry (3 varities, dwarf) 3 Apple (2 varieties, dwarf) 5 Pussy Willow 3 Mock Orange 3 Wiegelia 3 Azela 6 Norway Spruce 3 American Arborvite (as screens) 9 I don't expect the Spruce to make it and may pull them. We're in a rural area with no sidewalks, and shallow drainage ditches (hence the willow and cypress near spots often too wet). It looks a little odd now, since they are all rather small. Only the Norway Spruce are in danger of crowding, so I'll probably remove all but one watch how it does with the heat for the next few years. I hope I inspire others to plant the development. I will remain responsible with limbs, tree health, leaves, etc. That's the key when having a suburban forest, at least in my opinon.

How Many Decorative Mirrors Are Too Many?

I tend to choose mirrors over art. I like the way they play with light in our little cottage and reflect the outside views. I can count art on one hand, but I can't the mirrors! Mustang, your wall reminds me of something we did in our daughter's room. I started with them different finishes, but I ended up painting them all the same shade of white. It bounced the light beautifully. (BTW, I love looking at pics but am scared to death when it comes to sharing. This has always been our "we'll only be here awhile" house, so I've decorated with whatever I can find for pennies instead of what I want. Read: hodgepodge!) In our living room I've actually lost track of how many different mirrors we've used for a little while then moved. That room has great morning light, and I just can't help but fill it with mirrors. how many different flooring types is too many?

Sure. Bathrooms often have different floors. My house has 9 bathrooms. None of the floors match the adjacent room. (We are a B&B Inn.).

I haven't 100% decided yet, and I'm not married to the color choice, just saw this palette and thought it was beautiful. I was planning to paint them all, yes. The photos are making them out to be better than they are! They are in pretty rough shape right now and I'm not sure how to repair without a complete refinish. The glass I thought I might cover is the glass on the cabinets just outside the kitchen (and the matching ones under the TV). Again, the glass is in rough shape and needs something. Thank you....it's my first house and I put a lot of love into it. I stopped at the kitchen because I planned to move this year, but my plans fell through so I thought I'd pick up the project again.

1. Yes, that's too much, especially for a kitchen this size.

2. Brick and marble are not a natural pairing. Not saying a talented designer couldn't make it work somewhere, but a DIY mix of those materials is playing with fire. Not sure marble is the best pairing either with your current floor tile--are you keeping the same tile?

So the shade of green would essentially be the same shade as the green in your bedroom. I don't think it is ideal to carry such a similar color on to the cabinets and I think it is a bad idea to add the brick to the glass. Are there other cabinet colors you are considering?

Are you an artist? I notice the awesome mural and sculptures. If you are an artist I would paint all the cabinets black except the island. I would paint a mural on the island that covers the entire surface.

Same family for sure - the green in my bedroom is a very bright emerald (I just keep it very dark in there). Black was definitely my first choice for the cabinets and I thought I might paint a mural on the cabinet wall on the side of the fridge. The part I'm most concerned with is the durability of the island. Would a great sealer really protect it from shoes kicking up against it?

@mcarroll16 I agree the marble and tile are a weird mix. The tile covers almost the entire house so it isn't going anywhere and I just can't afford to replace all that marble.

THANK YOU ALL - yes, I'm an artist for me only and sometimes my brain gets full of colors and ideas and I just needed to talk it out with level heads :)

I think the general consensus is kill the green idea and NO brick.

After you paint the mural on the island put plexiglass panels over it for protection.

Sometimes one space isn't big enough to fit all of our ideas. Save some for your next house. :-) It's important for us to know if the floor is going to change or you're keeping it. I am having trouble envisioning that shade of green with that floor, and adding marble and brick would be too much for my taste. I think marble and/or brick is only going to work if the floor is changed. It is pretty busy on its own. I also don't see why you need to paint all of the cabinetry in the adjacent rooms if you paint the kitchen cabinets. If you're still planning on moving in the not too distant future I would just replace the counter, but not with marble, something calmer, because the floor is making a statement. If you aren't planning on moving at all for quite a while then I guess there's no reason not to go crazy with what you like, but think on it for a while before jumping into anything. Painting cabinets is a lot of work when you do it right.
