Grand Cayman...who's been there?

Would be looking for good snorkeling primarily. If you've been and snorkel, can you recommend a particular location on the island? Also, we've been to Turks & Caicos but were not particularly impressed. If you've been to both, how would you compare them? TIA.

I am going in March! We are holding our book club there.

Have you done a lot of snorkeling? If so, where? I find that people's expectations of snorkeling vary widely based on where they have already been.

AFAIK, GC is mainly to see stingrays. BTDT. My understanding is that Bonaire is one of your best bets, after Roatan. We are going to Roatan, and Cuba, on the same trip as GC. We are also snorkeling and diving in the Maldives over the holidays, but that is a bit further...

Probably not. I'm from California originally, and I don't find the RGBG particularly interesting at this time of year. The aquarium next to RGBG is nice. Albuquerque Museum in Old Town is also a nice destination. Enjoy.

What did you do? I'm in Denver with the same decision-- I'm leaning towards the Amerimax. They're about $70 more per window... but from what I've read the 5500 has a large frame, which for smaller (basement) windows is a real deal breaker.

I had written a post about my problems with a payoff of almost $8,000.00 on my Sears MasterCard which for two weeks went missing. I also posted about the loan that I received from my bank and Why there was a $25,000.00 HELOC with a payment of $231.00 and a $25,000.00 Fixed Rate account with a payment of $217.00! Both due on November 4th. First, the $8,000.00 was not missing. For some reason, CitiBank insisted that my loan officer and I had to be on the phone together to acknowledge the payment to the account? It, (the payment) had been sitting on someone's desk for two weeks! No reason given on why .. the same bank, (CitiBank) accepted and applied my payoff on the Costco Visa Card and wouldn't do the same on the Sears MasterCard without the above hoops! (Three way call) Both cards are owned by CitiBank. The bank loan thingy was quite simple. My loan officer opened a HELOC (home equity line of credit) which is akin to a credit card, took out all of the money and paid off the high percentage credit cards and deposited the rest into my savings account. After doing that, my loan officer converted the HELOC account to a Fixed Rate account where my payments will be $217.00 a month from now on! YAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! That HELOC account was charged $14.00 for interest and draw-down charges which is why there was a $231.00 payment due instead of $217.00 I wrote a check today for the $14.00 on the HELOC account which will effectively close that account! She (loan officer) did it this way to save me on the appraisal and other fees associated with a regular Home Equity Loan. I am now in a very good place with a lot more breathing room! From almost $900.00 a month in payments to $217.00 a month!!!! I still have almost $100,000 equity in my home too! The Math works out just fine! Thank You Everyone!!

I have a set of very small vacuum attachments (like finger sized) - a small brush, small nozzle - I think I bought them at the hardware store, with an adapter so they would fit on my vacuum's hose. Perhaps that would work? I use them for getting into small dusty crevices and corners. Another thought is some soft flexible tubing, also from the hardware store, small enough to slide under the harp and move around to vacuum up the dust (if that is accessible - I don't have a grand so don't know if there is an access point to go under the harp frame) I generally just use the dusting brush attachment on my upright vac to clean inside my spinet.

Mtn, we were first introduced to snorkeling while living in Panama many years ago. It was fabulous. But, as you know, the oceans are dying and snorkeling there, as well as most places, is not what it used to be. We visited Roatan a few months ago and it was fine but we have no desire to return. The best snorkeling we've ever found was here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mi9TMZ-Hdpg&t=325s). It reminded us of snorkeling in Panama long ago. We didn't get to the great barrier reef when in Australia but may return and make that a priority. There's a very good chance we'll return to Tahiti just to do the coral garden tour again; it absolutely took my breath away. I hope you'll report back on the Maldives as we'd love to hear from one who has been!

I think the best snorkeling for me, hands down, was an island off the coast of Borneo. After that, Lizard Island on the Great Barrier Reef (i preferred it over other parts of the reef). Have also been a few places in the Caribbean, Hawaii, Panama and USVI, Tulum. I might be forgetting something. Hopefully getting certified to dive makes for a better experience, but I have found Caribbean marine life a little bit disappointing? I did try to get to Bonaire during COVID but that ws a logistical mess... it is still on my list though; it can be hard to get straight info, but googling around it seems to have a lot of fans.

Tell me more about your impressions of Roatan? Did you dive or snorkel there?

I have never been to Tahiti! or Fiji.

He also visited a small island off Venezuela to scuba, this spring and loved it.

We went to Stingray City....it was a blast! The public beach was a great snorkling spot. For great "wall art" & tourist curios, Cathy Church's Shop. There's a submarine you can take to see the underwater scenery. Glass bottom boat tour. Rum cakes are the Island speciality. There's a GREAT sandwich shop and they have organic salads in a strip mall....middle of town.....for a quick lunch. Devils Grotto is a cool/silly tourist attraction, takes about 5 minutes to grab a quick photo. There's an orchid garden in George Town. There's a Turtle Farm, great tour...I'm a turtle nut. They sell turtle shells & turtle jewelry, but ask that YOU check on import regulations before buying anything. We rented a car.

ooh Nicole, that all sounds great. One of the members of my book lcub lives there now so I haven't felt the need to do any research but I am cutting and pasting this into my Google doc itinerary!

The jewelry store in front of Treasure Island hotel...is NICE! I purchased a bronze turtle statue there...but the jewelry was choice! We stayed @ that hotel too...they were in the middle of a remodel...I'm checking and they only have 5.8 stars.....after the remodel...so I'd pass. We did a live-aboard yacht the next time...and ...of course it was top notch. I remember there was a fancy yacht next to the one we were on...the captain called in the numbers to the coast guard...and it was registered to John Claude Van Damme. Lots of celebrities laying on the beach....I did a lot of beach walking....pristine white sand. Oh...and Cathy Church is a famous underwater photographer.

Mtn, impressions of Roatan~~I doubt we'll return. However, we don't dive; maybe if we did, we would have been more impressed. We met another snorkeling couple who thought it was wonderful and definitely plan to return. Will have to check out Borneo!

Whatsayyou, Can I ask where you stayed? We are at Ibagari. Friends of friends recc Roatan and since we'd never been, I added it to our itinerary.
