Cuisinart Combo Steam & Convection Toaster Oven
Comments (26)Hard to explain until you have one in hand to experiment with. I replaced my vintage double wall oven with a single side door oven and a built-in steam oven a few years ago. Controlled steam is superior for so many things as mentioned above. All veg, even a simple root veg or potato, has so much flavor. I re-heated frozen lasagna that I made last month...as good even better than when first made. We rely so heavily on roasting/crisping for flavor but often not needed. If I want that it is a quick 3-4 min under the broiler for toasting/roast flavor. Two different dishes, a protein and a rice veg, on separate trays, can steam simultaneously without crossed flavors. Even guessing at time/temp seems to be very forgiving. It does leave a bit of moisture behind that needs wiping, but leaving the door open overnight will keep any microbial mess from forming. As well as the water reservoir. For those new at steaming, leave the reservoir out of it's slot to air dry. My kitchen is tiny hobbit-like so no counter space. Niente, nada. Not even a toaster. I use the broiler. A small wall oven is so efficient and right at eye level with a big clear door....See MoreAir Fryer oven -- desertsteph
Comments (9)Don't mean to be rude calling out your name desertsteph I don't take that as being rude... I think for getting extra info on one it is better in a separate thread so not to trail away from the OP of the other. It's a good topic - we can learn from each other before making an investment of our $s. i can't really recommend the brand I have. I wouldn't buy it again unless they remade it with SS inside instead of the coated whatever they used. It's a Paula Deen, comes with 2 or 3 trays and a basket. It stunk to high heaven for a very long time when used. If looking for another one now I'd want SS on the inside and on the trays. I do have a problem with lots of 'scents' on / in things (soaps, shampoo, detergent, cleaners, candles etc). This one is a good size for me and easier to use than a round one (that one is a cook's essentials I think from Evine (now a different shopping channel name)). It was good but the basket didn't come apart (so more difficult to clean) and didn't hold a lot - it was maybe 4 qt size. The one someone posted a pic of here looks good - like it has SS inside. A lot of them are more than I want to spend and probably larger than I need (or have space for). FB has a separate page for the IP AF oven so you could check there for reviews on that brand. I read a lot of good reviews and a lot of not so good reviews on it. I've read not so good reviews on the one by Wolfgang. Curtis Stone has one now (on HSN) but rather new out and I haven't checked reviews on it. Mine has 'burned' off most of the smell by now so I keep using it. somethings I cook in it are in another small pot so not on the rack that came with it. and I found I had a very small SS 'pan' with holes in it that fit in it and use that to put in garlic bread / tater tot type things. the air flows in / around it but food isn't on the nonstick rack that came w/ the AF. it's like a tiny broiler pan insert. I haven't used a broiler in many, many decades so I have no idea why I have this little tiny holey piece of metal... lol! but it works great. Breville should be a good brand if it has an AF. Moccasin Landing (yrs ago she posted on Small Homes) had a Breville toaster oven that she raved about. I like the dials on them rather the electronic read outs. also be sure that the words / temp numbers are dark and large enough to read without your glasses (if you need them). Mine has a light inside and I like the glass in the door so you can see the food cooking rather than the AF basket type. I was always pulling it out... and pushing it back in. you might check the Blue Jean Chef's website to see if she (Meredith Lawrence) has any tips on the different brands and / or what to watch / look for in one....See MoreAnyone access new Sharp Convection Microwave Drawer with Air Fryer
Comments (60)Hi, I am a chef and cook a lot. I have a brand new Miele range, a whynter steam countertop oven in my pantry (which is fantastic, espcially for steaming) and I purchasee the sharp convection/air fry microwave drawer. The time it takes to reheat something is double what my last microwave was. I heated a bowl of soup and it took 8 minutes. I used the covection bake mode to cook 4 baked potatoes and after one hour,,,it still didn't cook them through. I had to use my miele range to finish them. I was so excited to purchase this microwave and now I'm dissapointed. I will call a tech next week to see if there is something wrong. It was a lot of money and the "cut out" in the cabinets are much larger than a standard microwave, so I feel kind of stuck now with this appliance. Huge Upset! Also,,,,as I am reading comment I saw the post about not toasting as it should. I agree. One side gets toasted and you have to flip it over! Its not even and it's a pain in the $%^#$$%...See MoreIs an air fryer just a convection oven?
Comments (25)I have a Tovala countertop oven that convection bakes, broils, steams and reheats. Since it is just the two of us, I use it a lot, even though I also have a Samsung oven with the two oven capacity so I could use the smaller oven. This thread has been an eye-opener. I love the way baked veggies taste and frozen potatoes cook in the Tovala. It never occurred to me that this is what the "air frying" hoopla is describing. Off to learn more, thanks!...See Moreraee_gw zone 5b-6a Ohio
