I really like your staircase- the return landing with the stained-glass is awesome. I get what you're saying about a period feel with a slight modern bend- the last light, your old friend, is my pick of the ones you showed. Since you're still looking, maybe consider a tad larger scale than a single bulb pendant- for your entrance, with a significant staircase in view, a single bulb pendant, even an overpriced one, may disappear or look skimpy- and this is space you will want well lit on occasion. The clear glass shades with the silver-tipped bulbs are more for ambiant lighting and will cast light up, and not illuminate the foyer much, particularly a single bulb. With your home's enviable built-in character, maybe consider a 2 or 3 bulb small canopy (term? style that is like an upside down umbrella) with a solid etched/frosted glass shade on a dimmer switch. Clear glass may make for a blinding bulb greeting guests at the door. Form follows function. Just thoughts....love the space.

I did them in my kitchen (white quartz countertops, dark grey stained cabinetry, stainless accents), in a rustic-industrial style. Base bulbs, clear glass shades, plus a matching 3-light "chandalier" over the peninsula. Personally, I LOVE them. People can't stop commenting on them, and they're not harsh at all. As Feisty says, they're actually a very "candle"-like lighting and definitely not for working. Think the highest watt is 60, and that's not much. Keep in mind the bulbs are a bit more pricey ($10 each), but I can't imagine not having them. I have 7 in my home and have no complaints.

I'm new to this site. I am a stained glass artist but am now going to do my first mosaic. I have an old wooden cabinet that has two glass doors. I will be cutting out the main 'story' pieces from textured semi-transparent glasses and plan to adhere all of this to the existing glass on the cabinet doors then do the mosaic work around it. I plan to incorporate some nice flat stones I've collected from various places I have vacationed at into the art piece. I have removed the doors so that I am working on the horizontal, so there is no problem with waiting for the adhesive to set. From what I am reading, It sounds like "weldbond" may be a good choice. I would like it to dry clear. I plan to use black grout in the project. There are lights inside of the cabinet that will illuminate the project when finished. I am hoping I am on the right track. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

That's partly what sparked this topic. Your input is helpful. I'm a big believer in dimmers. I have nice lighting in my current kitchen but usually do also turn my pendants on too, though not always at full strength. So that information is good to know. Do you have any kitchen photos? I'd love to see it with the lanterns and the globe at the sink! Laurainlincoln, those lights are pretty! Thank you for sharing your experience with lanterns as well. GreenDesigns, I'm only 36 but we do plan on being in this house a very very long time! So aging is something to think about. Also, our parents visit a lot. But I also hate to dust so..... Ha!
