The Kitchen Table

Can someone tell me what this is?

I need to replace the metal part, but I don't know what it's called. When tightened, it pushes against the dowel (sticking up) and prevents it from swiveling. Thanks!

My husband just installed a similar thing on our two twin horizontal murphy beds that he made. He looked online and it is called a cotterless hitch pin.

My first thought was a carved jade fish bowl. https://www.icollector.com/Carved-jade-fishbowl-Decorated-with-Koi-fish-along-rim-Approx-28-x-24-x-12-H_i8766478 If you google "large green jade fish bowl" and click on images you'll see an image from an auction on Catawiki with a bowl similar to yours. It's also on a large wooden base. I can't click on it to link because the auction is over.

It's nearly impossible to determine the exact reasons your plants are suffering because of so many problems they exhibit, and because they are grown in containers. Stunted plants can be caused by many reasons such as low oxygen levels in the soil, insufficient sunlight, viruses, cold soil or nutrient deficiencies. And the foliage issues are a deficiency of nutrients but hard to pinpoint compounded by the environmental stress the plants are dealing with. Watering is always an issue when growing in pots because several nutrients can easily be washed out of the soil when watering such as nitrate nitrogen, sulfur, boron, Manganese and Chlorine. Tomatoes/potatoes use a lot of sulfur, it easily leaches out of the soil and the fertilizers you're using does not seem to contain any. In fact it doesn't have much of anything except Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, so I'd start with sulfur as a potential deficiency. Your fertilizers are not a good selection for container gardening and you should be using a fertilizer which clearly states on the nutrient analysis Nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and also includes Calcium, Magnesium, Sulfur, boron, copper, Manganese, zinc and maybe Molybdenum. Fish emulsion lacks many of these minerals with little to none and best suited for the ground. What did you use for the dirt in the pots? If your soil isn't porous and compacts there is no place for oxygen, and plants take oxygen from the soil as a basic requirement. The roots also drown and die if water can't drain in compacted soil, or the water runs down the sides of the pot. I'm not into container gardening but there is a lot to know to be successful. Sorry but I can't give you any easy answers. They're are some container gardener experts on this site and maybe one can give you a few pointers.

That's close, Annie, but the part I need is more like a cylinder than a screw. It's not threaded.

Interesting, I'm not sure how you would tighten it or how it would hold without being threaded. Of course if the hole is larger than the threads, it won't matter that it's threaded.

If the hole is larger than the threads, wouldn't the screw flop around in there? I agree--one would think threading would be necessary. I haven't used the hoop (the wooden part is an Erica Wilson Fanny Frame, c. 1980) in years, and I don't have a clear recollection of this part. But I"m thinking it must fit snugly into the hole. I can't imagine how I lost it, but when you're embroidering and hooking rugs with three kids and numerous dogs and cats in the house, anything can happen. :-)

That looks like the kind of fittings that you find in flat pack furniture, such as that from Ikea. I cant recall what they are called. I think that they are called cam nuts and cam screws. That might be what you have there, maybe.

Thinking you might use an eye bolt in place of that. Threaded or not, it just needs to fit and be the correct length, right?

P.S. You might also try searching 'eye pin hardware' and 'lifting eye pin hardware'

If it just fits against the dowl any flat ended bolt would work. Finding one the right length with a dome would be the difficult part. You would want the dome shape so your thread would not catch on it.

Chisue, maybe someone will know what the edge is called, but that's not a table. It's the part of the frame you sit on. Thinking about the metal part, it just doesn't make sense that it wouldn't screw in with threads. But I don't see even a trace of thread marks inside the hole where it goes. Maybe they wore off, and that's how I lost it.
