18” or 24” pendant for a 9’ island with 8’ ceilings?

I’m doing a home renovation and need some help with the pendant lights. The island will be 9’ (2.7m), ceilings are 8’ (2.5m) and I wanted 2 oversized pendant lights (black dome with brass interior) but can’t figure out the right size needed. Would you recommend 18” or 24” (45 or 60cm)? The more I read the more confused I get so I appreciate everyone’s insight.

We need to see them. I aslo am very adamant with my clients that they choose good lighting for over the island not just pretty but really good . The size is IMO less important than the amount of light you get from the fixture We also need tp know the width of the island

These are the 2 designs I’m deciding on. The island is 3’6” wide and the kitchen will have canned lighting as well (pendants won’t be the only source of light).

My island is 58" x 105" with 8' ceilings. I went with two 13" Benson pendants. Perhaps it's because my ceilings are only 8', but I can't imagine having three of these in my space as they take up a large amount of visual space. I had considered going with three of the 7", but the consensus here was to go with the larger. Glad I did as they really do make a statement.

I don't know exactly how many you should have, but you might think twice about hanging a pendant over the middle of your island. It will be hard to change the bulbs. We have three pendants over an island roughly the same size as yours, and frankly I wish we didn't. They are a pain in the butt, particularly the one over the middle of the island.

Hello everyone!! I NEED HELP!!! I purchased 2 Duke Oversized Pendants (16 inch overall diameter) in 2020 on Pottery Barn site. They make my whole kitchen!! The glass on one of them broke and Pottery Barn site says No Longer available! Ive been in tears for weeks!!! Can anyone tell me where I can find one of these?? My email is ginamt2@yahoo.com. We're glad you asked! We have advice about this very subject. Pendant size is determined by taking the width (not length) of your island in inches and subtracting 12. The number you get is a good maximum size for a pendant light. We recommend spacing pendants about 2 feet apart, so with your 8 foot island you could definitely go for 3 pendants. If you do choose 3, choose ones that are a bit smaller than the maximum size per pendant as mentioned above. If you go for 2, you could pick out larger pendants (which is a popular look these days), more towards that maximum size per pendant. Depends on the depth of the island the the look you're going for.

The island is 9’ by 3’6” and I’m looking for a dome like the ones below. I’m just worried the 24” will be too much due to the height of the ceilings.

This is like asking which earrings work with my outfit but we don't see the outfit. Show us the kitchen please or at least the drawings from the designer . I like statemnt lighting BTW I do not care how many pot lights you have unless that are above the island you still need good lighting there .

There’s no designer, I’m trying to figure it by myself. Also the best I can provide is the render from the ikea cabinets and what the site looks at the moment. Appreciate the patience.

For reference, my island is 9x5 and those are the Ballard Designs Adelaide 20”. I have 12’ ft ceilings. Hope that helps!
