So what can one expect to pay for a medium sized vented gas insert including installation? In my case, I just purchased an older house with a real fireplace that has been converted to a cheapy, open gas log fireplace. I'd like a fireplace that actually serves to heat the room. My house is quite small (1,100 sq ft), so maybe it can serve to heat a majority of the house. I'm also new to Tennessee (from Florida), and don't know much at all about doing battle with colder weather. Fireplaces/inserts/furnaces are all new to me. So what does an installed vented insert gonna cost?

Hi. I spend a lot of time on the Kitchen Forum. This is my first time here. Along with the kitchen remodel, we're redoing the main living spaces in our house, including the fireplace wall. Currently we have two wood burning fireplaces back to back on the same wall, but the fireboxes are offset from each other and different heights so they are not double-sided. They are not in the right spot on the floor plan and take up too much space. We plan to take this wall and the fireplaces out and install a double-sided see-through gas fireplace in a slightly different spot. Our GC steered us to a local fireplace shop where the Heat & Glo brand was recommended, specifically the ST550. Does anybody have this double sided fireplace? Are you happy with it? Any other brands you would recommend? Thanks in advance, and I apologize if I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about....because I don't!

We carpeted the office and rec room on our slab basement and love it. I would not have been brave enough to do that without the reassurances of my architect who has a lot of experience in the greater Baltimore area. No regrets on the carpet since 2006; we run the Roomba once a week and the carpet has stayed dry, soft, and clean. We also have wood-look laminate in the exercise area and ceramic tile in the kitchnette/bathroom. We do get significant water around the French drains in to the sump pump when it rains so we have both battery backup and an automatic standby generator for the house (including sump pump) to be sure that the basement does not flood when the power goes out.

Hi all, we're in final design phases of a cabin. Designer suggested installing a combination gas and wood fireplace instead of just a gas fireplace. Can't seem to find much information on the subject and don't know where to acquire a good brand. Appreciate any and all experience with this kind of product and where to purchase in or near AZ.
