Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 2/26
Comments (26)@Funkyart - I really don't know a lot about fasting. There is some conflicting info about it - as with all diet methods I think. What I did though was more one meal a day I guess. I was going to fast all day Friday, but I forgot I had a trainer workout. So, after that, around 11:00 am, I ate about 30 grams of protein in case I needed it for muscle recovery, and then fasted until 11:00 am Saturday. I just had plain water, and water with electrolytes. Tuesday I had a bagel for breakfast, then a 4 hour drive where I snacked on chips and a snack mix, so I decided I should fast again! So, I just stopped eating around 3 until Wednesday at 3. I'm not sure how often I'll try this. But every so often just to get myself back on track seems like a good idea for me personally. I'm not wearing a CGM right now, but the day after my fast last week was the most steady blood sugar day I'd had in awhile. I try to eat 3 meals a day, because otherwise how can I get all my food requirements and nutrients in? So, this is in contrast to that. It's a balance for sure! I see bone broth recommended a lot for fasting. I know my blood sugars are ok, so I just try to stay well hydrated. It does help me get in my water goal - drink instead of eat. I have read if you get a headache, you might need salt or electrolytes, so bone broth would be good for that. I had to put a little post it on the pantry to remind me not to eat nuts - mindless snacking can be a problem for me....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 8/20/2023
Comments (21)Things are going well here as far as the exercise goes. I of course can't really lose weight but I'm enjoying going dancing two or three times a week thrown in the mix right now. Going to free summer concerts helps with that. Also we go dancing once a week to alive music pub Friday nights or Saturday nights. The music is pretty good. DH is enjoying tries out different beers one beer each time. Are you ready for fall activities, clothes and food? I'm not ready for Fall. But I am more than ready for Fall. I don't want to stop wearing my summer clothes and going to all the summer dancing that we have been doing. I want the fires to be gone and people to not be too hot who are uncomfortable in the heat. It is weird to feel such Joy in being able to do these summertime activities and feel such sadness for people who are caught in fires and storms and etc. I guess both can exist at the same time but they are uncomfortable together. How are you doing with your healthy lifestyle goals? In as much as I can do my healthy lifestyle style goals are being met. As I said above I can't lose weight. But hopefully I can shift things enough through weight lifting etc to help with my problem areas. I'm looking at you muffin top.. What's going well As I've said before the shortened time span that I eat my meals with IF seems to work very well for me. My weight stays fairly consistent and has ever since I started this program. I don't look at it to help me lose weight as that seems to be a non-starter for me. It does definitely contribute to maintenance. I seem to need to cut out all extra evening snacks to maintain my weight no matter what level of activity I do. What needs more work and focus? I need to weight lift more even if it is body weight lifting and de-stress somehow so that I can lose the excess cortisol in my system and maybe not have a muffin top ;-). Wishing everybody else health and safety. I've been distracted by all these summer activities so haven't said much to individuals. But I think of you all almost every day....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/12/2023
Comments (5)Gscience - sorry you fell! Ugh, but it does sound like you are recuperating well! Hope it's a quick recovery from here on. Springroz - amazing Pilates consistency! That must feel fantastic! Funky- I hope you enjoyed your walk. We have been having lovely weather here as well, so I have been forcing myself to go along on the morning dog walks. Always glad I went, it's a good way to start the day. I had a good week mostly. Lots of walks, three good pickleball days, and three full body weight trainings. I have a great setup in my basement now that will allow me to progress through the winter and a goal to be strong to ski in February, so that should keep me motivated and moving forward. I'm still thinking about my bloodwork, nothing was alarming, but I was hopeful for some different numbers. But looking back honestly over the past few months I can see I wasn't really changing much up. So, I do have a couple tweaks I'm going to work on and see where I get. Mostly more fruits and vegetables, more water, more weight lifting, and some targeted supplements. I'm terrible at taking vitamins of any sort, but there is a theme in my bloodwork which might be helped with a couple additions. But, in the big picture, I am grateful for my good health so far in life, grateful for the mental health and mood boost eating well and exercising gives me, and grateful for my body which is getting stronger and allowing me to enjoy the activities I love. Can't let myself get down in the weeds too far :)...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/19/2023
Comments (9)Funky yes being devoted to just getting in shape and losing weight is a losing venture. And it waxes and wanes for all of us right? At least it does for me! Shrug :-). Funky I admire your choices with regards to what to eat for Thanksgiving. I however am very confused by the words I don't eat mac and cheese.. but I understand that you don't think it's a traditional side. We've never had it as a side here but since I've been hearing about it more and more regularly from south of the border I have thought about making it. Shrug. I wish I didn't love cheese so much. It seems like the only thing I can't turn my back on as far as high fat foods goes. Gscience I am so glad you are feeling better. Glad you are able to wear your undergarment again! If I couldn't I might be one of those people who wears four t-shirts and doesn't go out at all. Not very comfortable without some kind of undergarment. Read br*a. I'm kind of forced into a pseudo nutrition based life. But if I didn't have to I tell you I would be eating entirely differently. First thing I would add is licorice :-) yes licorice. But I can't eat it so I make do with things like Bliss balls. They are not licorice they are second best chocolate. Well or coconut and chocolate I am continuing along with the same core exercises. A few times I've had to do it on Saturday instead of Friday but that has turned out just fine. We have been going camping and DH been riding his electric mountain bike deep into the mountains. I stay in the camper mostly and cook meals sew clothes that need a bit of tweaking which I want to wear for dancing. We have a lot of fun doing this. I obviously do my exercises there as well. We missed one week of dancing and boy did I miss it. We are practicing the two-step at home as the places we go are a mix of country and pop and rock for their dance bands. I will rock out at home and often it is music that I know I will hear at the clubs. :-). So I watch a lot of music videos and listen to a great variety. Last night at our dance they played Footloose. A lot of fun and everyone joined in. We are getting back on track with walking the dogs for longer every day and I'm glad that that is happening. DS and I have been struggling with the usual weather change migraines. So frustrating. Shorter more frequent walks are what we can handle when we're sick. I hope everyone is doing well and has a wonderful week!...See MoreFunkyart
