Red and white LED lights have a beneficial impact between the spectrum of light useful for helping delay needle drop and also because they are cooler than incandecent lights. Cooler lights can help your tree last longer.

Somehow my "like" about cut trees not photosynthesizing morphed into a post. I certainly did not mean to step on anyone's post.

If the tree is standing in water and has been recut so it can absorb that water, it can photosynthesis until it runs out of water.

Actually, the best additive to use for cut trees is more fresh water, with nothing whatsoever added. No to fertilizer, sugar, and packets of stuff that says ”preservative”.

Cut xmas trees do photosynthesize, respire, give off oxygen….all that good stuff, though not indefinitely with the limiting factor being light. These field trees are grown in the full sun, which really cannot be produced inside the average home, nor would we want it to.

As long as there is chlorophyll present in a living cell, in the presence of water and CO2, photosynthesis is going to happen. But with the drastically reduced light quantity and quality in the living room or storage facility, not much is going to happen.

LED lights are, at least, cool and therefore not a hazard. Under scientific conditions, it was proven that white LEDs improved needle longevity while trees with blue lights fared the worst. Trees with the shortest interval from field to living room do better, and those displayed in a cool location are far better off than one in a toasty, dark corner by the fireplace or heating vent.

Many plants continue to function after being cut - survival tactics...

But....white lights are so....BORING! Nope nope nope. Multicolored lights only at my house. Twinkling ones. I'll put the tree near a window and open the blinds during the day.

I bought some baby Christmas trees to plant on our property. I know they take forever to grow but I would love to have living Christmas trees to decorate over and over every year. With MULTICOLORED lights. White lights are nice for a certain aesthetic I guess, but its not Christmas to me without lots of color. I figure I already cut the tree down might as well make it what I want it to be....
