How can I resurrect this living room ? Experts please help .
Comments (1)Start with large art that speaks to you. Some people love art that has nothing at all to do with the colors in a room. Others want to pick up colors they already have (gray sea, golden sand, you get the idea). A good size is 2/3 the length of the sofa. Then add some pillows that have personality. Put one of those small gray pillow in your car to carry around when shopping for new pillows. No extra rug on the carpet. The photo shows the right size....See MoreHate my living room. Comments (19)Thank you all for your great ideas. Diana, the living room is the 1st room you enter after passing through a small enclosed entry on our large front porch we also have the deck 9x25 along the side of our house. We live in a New England seaside community so we live and entertain on the 2 areas all summer, so removing that door wouldn’t work. We have a family room off the other end of the deck with a slider. We use the living room for holidays and when company is here I bring in some chairs but there just is no room. I would love to seat 6 comfortably and have a TV tucked in somewhere for the times when grandkids are here or my husband and I don’t want to watch same thing. Other than that, it is the main road through my house! Ugh. Deco, I have attempted to break up this long room by centering love seat opposite fireplace which also allows tv viewing. Put the desk area and storage of grandkids arts and crafts stuff there. Maybe less bulky furniture would free up some space. I did have the tv on a lovely cedar chest but last year put it in that stand in order to confine the chachkis to one space. Lol. Any other spot for TV? We just converted from oil to gas, FP, so plan on converting the fireplace too. Do use it sometimes in winter. Took out the wall between dining and kitchen years ago and it is right next to fam room so not sure how that would work. And you hit the nail on the head with the wall space. Would be happy losing or gaining any furniture if it helps. Only room in my house I hate and it’s the 1st anyone sees. Thanks for replying and all ideas. I really appreciate...See MorePlease help! How to layout furniture in living room?
Comments (2)CT, I'm Preksha from Styldod and here are a couple of layout options you could try for your living room. It would be best to buy a 3 seater and a couple of chairs for seating. A slim media console or a wall mounted TV can be placed by the entrance door. You could place a couple of chairs that could be moved around and a tall bookcase in the corner. The couch would then go to the wall opposite the TV. You also have the option to put the TV between the two doors and split the seating across the opposite wall. This would mean that you would enter right into the living room, but is the best use of available space. I would also recommend some tall storage units and a nice rug that will help ground the space. Here are some images to give you some ideas for furniture & decor. Hope this helps. Do post some images of your space/ furniture so we can further customize these for you. You can see both these layouts in a panoramic format here and make some changes to them yourself in interactive 3D designs here....See MoreHelp us fix living room lighting!
Comments (13)Thanks for the replies everyone and hope you enjoyed a few days away from Houzz for Thanksgiving (I did!). To answer a few questions... Yes, we moved in not long ago from a few states away and had the movers place stuff where it currently sits. Work has been so busy that there just hasn't been much time to get around to the interior of the house yet. The majority of our focus has been getting the outdoors situated (new paver patio, tons of landscaping). We are definitely open to moving stuff around (I hate the TV location, but haven't thought about a better place for it). The piano was my grandfathers and one of the ones I learned to play on. I keep the lid closed when it's not in use. I do plan to keep the sectional (for now) since we paid good $$$ for it and it is in incredible condition still. I don't think we NEED a fan, but in the North Carolina summer, it does help (a little) move air around. But, our HVAC system is really good and we only used the fan maybe 3-4 times during the summer after we moved in. However we fix the lighting, the paint has to get changed as well! This is not our forever house, so there isn't a huge desire to go absolutely crazy. But we will be here 4-6 years at least... And yes, I owe a scale drawing and will work on that tomorrow....See MoreYvonne Martin
