Ideas on how to extend my upstairs into the vaulted ceiling space.
Comments (2)You will probably use the same type of framing system already used for the upstairs. You will have some demo/framing, electrical, floor finishes, etc. You will usually need an Engineer or Architect to review and draw a plan. The window will have to change (shorter) and you may need to install a post in the center of that wall. If you have the original plans, that will simplify and give you an idea of what is needed. If the existing room above is a bedroom, code issues may arise since you usually cannot walk through a bedroom to get to another, and you will need to meet egress requirements. You might have to install a post at the other (interior) end or hanger off existing framing, up to Engineer. If you don't need the high ceiling, it is probably worth it to get the added space....See MoreUpstairs landing/loft area ideas
Comments (9)I see that hallway and think of all the great car races! (Matchbox cars- get a bunch at yard sales. They are FUN!) If it were my hallway I’d put in bookcases in the Hall area and then a couple of comfy chairs with a table by the windows. Not need for fancy built ins. You can get gorgeous solid wood bookcases at a consignment or resale shop for reasonable prices. Take excellent measurements with you- you never know when you’ll happen upon something perfect....See MoreHelp with designing an upstairs loft/den area
Comments (1)Browse the office photos and see if there aren't ideas there for this space. Think about storage for homework accoutrements and games, maybe a conference-type table that can double for homework and games, something like this perhaps: There are 211,590 more office photos here: https://www.houzz.com/photos/home-office-ideas-phbr0-bp~t_732#viewAllPhotos...See MoreCost to build a 1000 sq ft garage apartment with upstairs loft?
Comments (5)So...you dont have a house? And you dont have land? Someone down the street did exactly that. Then they lived in it a while, then built the rest. So yeah...doable. As for cost, talk to a builder. Someone in the neighborhood said theirs was 200k 8 years ago. Not including land. But that number means nothing....See MoreAshley Stephens
