I think if hou want drama , matbe a darker color paint or a solid / textured metallic wallsper -not a printed wallpaper .

if you want to soften the room , a warm white paint.

Plum paint or a moody, deep metallic could be wonderful. It is hard to say , not knowing the “flavor “ of the rest of your house or what your personal tastes lean toward, but a paper I have always loved ( albeit, it no longer comes in my favorite taupe color ) is Braunschweig and Fils’ “ Bird and Thistle”. Here it is in the silver colorway , which has a nice pale green look, picking up on your floor tile. I think it’s very classic in feel.

For something unexpected, fun, imo. , and vibrant , this Thibaut paper could really liven things up and make a whimsical and uniquely fresh statement. Here it is in a bathroom for you to see the scale and overall look better.”Janta Bazaar” from the Caravan Collection.

If you were to do something with this Thibaut, I think creating a faux cream colored wainscoting on the lower wall portion would be a beautiful look.

I would get a silk like wall covering in a subtle bronze that is slightly reflective.

I would do @niccihdg’s idea or a soft white paint all around. And replace the mirror with a sleaker round one.

WAY tooooo much going on, too many "stars" In the show. Pale GREEN or rose grass cloth.....please the mirror. Don't overpower the vanity and top,

and soften ....while staying in the palette. Faucet swap : )

Hi Emily, you said this was original marble flooring. Stunning! I am curious to know the age and style of your home. Was the vanity original as well?

Thank you. Yes, all original. Home was built in '89 and is very eclectic with lots of scroll millwork and gold hardware throughout. I moved in about a year ago, and I'm still trying to figure out the style. It has a kind of modern/french/baroque feel to it.

The elements you have are beautiful,but already rather busy. Any patterned wallpaper will just compete with the rest of the room. Choose a solid color paint in one of the tones in the marble and let it serve as a backdrop. Jan’s choices are spot on! Solid wallpaper canbe besutiful, but such a pain to remove. Stick with paint. Holy cow, Emily, you took on quite the adventure! I'm sure there are ways to do what you want. Have you figure out what aspects of this house you love? Can you many make an idea book with pictures of the parts of this house you love and want to keep?

I’d first change mirror to a vertical shape, add smaller sconces and change prints’ frames so everything is brass for a more unified look. Then stand back to decide on wall treatment and I could see a deep, rich green paint color. The idea is to connect/complement everything, which will create impact.

Gonna throw this out there and see what the pros think. If Emily wants "light" and something to compete with the marble and go with the vanity, what about this?

Actually emilybailey, I like that guest bathroom, because as overpowering as that marble is to the delicate 2020s retina , somebody made a commitment to it and I would at least realize that I was not in one of the 25 Million beige porcelain that goes with everything (but looks good with nothing) or glacially white guest bathrooms out there.

If you are not planning to totally renovate the bathroom, embrace the dark rococo style.

Whether you do paint or wallpaper, paint the trim in a dark color to blend in with the marble and the dark walls. That will tone down the high contrast which is contributing to the overall busy-ness of the space.

Confession, I have the teal version in my powder room and it is gorgeous. Have not actually seen the other colors.

Giving that vanity a new finish would make a huge difference.
