It hasn't begun yet here. Barely 3:30 on this coast. DH just helped me put up the doorway framing pumpkin light strings I bought last week. They are going to be a 'one-night stand' but they look pretty cheerful right now.

We'll only have handful even with my attempts to look welcoming. I ran a quick errand a little while ago and noticed signs indicating free haunted house at a grand old home down the hill (invitation was new this year), and another stately house had a couple of guys stacking hay bales all along the sidewalk. I'm not exactly sure what they were doing, but seemed to have something fun in mind, both were laughing...

It's 7:00 here, rained earlier and still damp. We've had 25 or so? Mostly the very youngest, some of whom need mom or dad to help them up the steps. Very cute.

No big groups, no middle schoolers or older. I kinda hope they come along because we still have lots of candy to give out.

My cauldron was just emptied by two boys. After I said they could have what they they said handfuls, and emptied it out.

I'm on my second batch of candy.

It's pretty much over here. One trick or treater this evening. It's raining and it looks like it will be for a while.

6:15pm and no one.

We didn’t have our first kids until 45 minutes in! I was getting worried. It’s been slow so far We are on the short end of the block, kids tend to go on the perpendicular streets, with sidewalks, especially after dark. It’s 6 now, and between 5 and 7 is usually when the kids from the next town come around. We’ll see.

I went out to buy candy today and, as expected, there was none left. We are giving out bags of chips, and Rice Krispie Treats (“Take one of each”), and the kids sure do like Nacho Doritos!

I’m less than halfway through the stash, and more than halfway through the evening.

I haven't ever had trick or treaters since I moved to my present home. I would be in trouble if any showed up since I have no candy.

We live on a deserted beach road - no sidewalks, streetlights or neighbors in the off-season. So all we would be able to offer are dog treats. Not to worry. We've never had trick or treaters in our all of 30+ years of being here.

We might have had about 20 or so. It's been raining and it's mostly been parents and really little kids. The Phillies game starts at 8 ( like 40 minutes from now) so I suspect it will totally be over shortly.

And to think we returned the mega bag of dum dum lollipops and went with the over sized bag of chocolates (snickers milky ways, m and m's kit kat, reese's oh my).. They are the mini size treats so I have had a good sampling. Fortunately a neighbor collects the leftover candy and sends to the troops.

(I have to get it out of the house because I am hopelessly will power less).

I always get chocolate.

Ended up with a decent turnout for a rainy night, got rid of almost all the candy by giving out big handfuls this past hour. Very few older kids, and everyone was well costumed.

We stopped at 7:50. So about two hours.

25 minutes to go and I’ve given out way less than half of my treats.

Welp , just wrote a nice long response and it disappeared. I gave out 100 bags of candy. Kids were adorable. They kept coming deapite the rain. It was fun.

At 6:55 PM, it is fully dark and 77°, but since this is mostly a retirement community, there are no children in the neighborhood, unless they come to visit grandparents.

We generally get a few in L.A., which is where I will be tomorrow. I'm sure my brother can handle them.

We had a good turnout - 140 trick or treaters. The weather was very warm for Missouri on Halloween (68°) and they started coming about 5:30 and we turned off the light at 8:30.

We had the typical adorable little ones but more than usual bigger kids. Middle schoolers and high schoolers. One boy was well over 6’ and 200 pounds! But they were friendly and courteous and for the most part made an effort to have some sort of costume.

I remembered the conversation on here a few weeks ago about the older kids - at least they’re not out drinking or racing their pickups up and down the streets. We had plenty of candy for everybody as we always buy a lot.

It was a rainy evening, only 12. Last year we had 29. Wish we’d had more for two reasons. First because I enjoy it, second because now my husband and I will be eating all the candy!

We had only eight kids in three rings of the doorbell.

17 Trick or treaters. We used to have over over a hundred. It doesn't help that there are several trunk or treats going on locally. They used to be during the day but now they are competing with the traditional door to door ritual. I miss giving out candy to all the little ones and admiring their costumes. Have tons of leftover candy since I was hoping this would be a popular thing after 2 years of pandemic.

We were really happy one of our favorite trick or treaters came by again this year. He is severely developmentally disabled. Autism and maybe more. He was born in our neighborhood but has moved to another nearby. He absolutely has chosen us as his special friends, especially DH, so all these years his father brings him by occasionally to say hi. He always asks when it's candy time and loves cars. So Halloween is very special day for all of us. He is a man in his mid-late twenties now. Wonderful family.

We had about 30. All very cute most preteen and little kids. One little girl came and I gave her extra because she was so sweet and then she showed up again with another group of kids so she got another bunch of candies. She announced I'm here again. She said thank you very politely :-)

It tends to run in the four figure area, and I'm pretty sure they're all from other places. So the one year I did it, it was scary. They were rough! Stare at you and grab candy. So I don't do it. It rained last night and the counter only went to the six hundred range by the person who uses their clicker. The weird part is, a handful of blocks over they beg for kids. I wish it'd spread out some. I actually used to have a lot of fun on Halloween.

I'm envious of all the rain reported. We are sooo terribly dry. We had four groups come to the door. All neighbors. A few of our homes are split between mom and dad so I never know if the kids will be in our neighborhood or not. I heard our Trunk or Treat last Saturday was 700 cars long. It's soo easy for kids to really stock up quickly in those situations. I do think it looses a lot of the mystery and fun not walking door to door. It's too bad parents don't help their kids choose their own neighborhood where they are known and be satisfied with what they get.

They started at 6pm on the dot! I had 100 pieces of candy, handed out one per child, and had run out by 7:10, with 50 minutes still to go! I had seriously underestimated what I would need, but it had been a few years (either at work, or Covid the past 2) and I had forgotten how much I used to buy.

T&T is big in my neighborhood! I do have to say that I don't think I had ever seen so many parents with very young toddlers who could barely walk or talk sending them up to get candy... it was a bit surprising to me.

ETA: we do think that we have several groups who come in from other parts of the metro area, because our neighborhood has the reputation of being fun and friendly, but they are no problem at all. Occasionally we have a issue with (usually a) parent who is inappropriate - grabbing handfuls of candy or even stealing a bowl.

Whoa, Rob333! You get a thousand trick or treaters? I could not do that. I could not afford that. Is there an understandable reason why so many come to your area?

We had ZERO trick-or-treaters in the 4 to 8 p.m. city-mandated time frame. I guess Costco will take back unopened packages of Toblerones. I'd opened several to be 'ready', and I'm sure we'll manage to eat those over time. Pooh! I'd hoped to meet some of the new neighbors with littles. I knew we wouldn't have very many kids, but hoped for at least the usual dozen or so. (Houses are on 1+ acres here; too much walking for most children.)

matthias, I admit they decorate highly and have treats for both kids and adults... but we had the same thing on the other side of town and didn't get that many. I dunno. I find it more perplexing that just blocks over they don't get any. And they were giving away full size candy bars. It was posted on the neighborhood Facebook page. So if you lived here, you would know where to go. They didn't so I assume they're from the other side of the bridge.

We had about 60 children of all ages this year which is up a little from last year.

We had one set of three boys about 7 to 9 years. They did not live on our street and the one that we know live on our street, did not come by. It was nice with no rain and only cool.
