Hi, I just wanted to give a few pointers on spraying... an HPLV sprayer is incredibly useful but please be careful (or do not use at all) to spray a house. While they are far better than siphon feed sprayers, they still create a fair bit of overspray. This is fine if you are spraying lacquer on cabinet doors outside- the lacquer is dry in seconds in the air - its just dust by the time its travelled next door. But when spraying house paint, any wind will end up painting the neighbours house/car/pet/laundry...it can be a tough conversation afterwards (and can be rather expensive.) Use an airless paint sprayer for houses - much more direct spray and a heavier coat. They are cheap as well. Also, for a DIY with an HPLV, you need a decent compressor to get the right flow - the little hotdog/pancake compressors will not normally/likely support the CFM's required by a spray gun. just my 2 cents. Hello SunnyCottage! I would agree that your paint project is going to creep further aground! Here's some food for thought, mined from the web. "A room with crown molding most likely has other trim as well, such as around doors and windows. Painting the crown molding to match the other molding in the room creates a cohesive environment. If the other trim in the room is stained, stain the crown molding to match. One exception is when the ceiling seems low in the room already -- a crown molding that is painted a different color than the walls may make the ceiling seem even lower because the highlighted molding draws the eyes upward. In this case, you might opt to paint crown molding and walls to match." I took one of my little forays into Photoshop to explore. This example shows painting the crown to match the ceiling (which was also given as an option to optically raise a ceiling on other websites). At least that is the intention of my doctored photo, but I think my attempts provide a laugh for experienced photoshoppers.

I think your cabinets are still beautiful and my feeling is if you have no intention of changing the layout, I'd leave well enough alone. Cherry cabinets are always in style and wood cabinets are actually coming back into vogue once again. As for the floors, I love a dark floor in looks, but had one in my condo and HATED the fact that it constantly looked dirty and dusty. I'd reconsider a dark finish. I think your floor finish works too. If the granite cracks, I'd look at a new countertop such as a Taj Mahal quartzite or if you love quartz, one that is warmer than a gray/white. Then have fun with the backsplash. Some other thoughts. How many more years do you intend to stay in the home? That too will determine whether it's worth redoing the cabinets, etc. How do you feel about the cabinets? Are you wanting to make white cabinets because that's what's in? Or do you really love the look and would love it even if it wasn't "in" and trendy? Do you really want to spend the money on new cabinets when the money could be used for other things? A nice cruise for example? Personally, I would never paint gorgeous cherry cabinets white. Painted cabinets will never hold up as long as your cabinets. The person who bought my condo painted the gorgeous bathroom cherry cabinets white, and somehow they look cheap now. (Please don't tell her I said that! LOL.) Thankfully she left the cherry kitchen cabinets.

1) In the communist state of California I can get Conversion Varnish from a dozen places within 5 miles of my shop. 2) spay outside only if the look you are going for includes bugs and debris. 3) A professional finish involves prep, primer and topcoat. Cheap usually results in cheap. (Automotive sprayer has skils but differet experience). 4) probably be better off going with what the finisher is comfortable with. Italian 2k is not hard just different and he won't like the fact that it cost more. 5)white is a pigmented finish not just red and yellow. White is actually more pigmented. Red would most likely use a clear base or you would get pink. 6) it's ok to call California a communist state we welcome it. There's way too many people here as it is. One fact to note in the 80's the smog was so bad there were days when your eyes and throat burned. If left unchecked today we would all be wearing gas mask like they do in China the other communist state.
