A friend and I were talking about this last week. Try and keep a record of it. Some falls matter, some don't.

Oh dear. The worst injury is your pride. Sorry this happened to you.

I tripped over uneven sidewalk near my house. Fortunately I landed in the grass and bruises were minor. A few weeks later i went to the hospital for an injection in my back and mentioned my fall when asked. In return, i got this lovely bracelet which i now keep pinned to my bulletin board.

Oh dear, Chisue, I'm so, so sorry. Since you hit your head, maybe you should have gone to emergency or at least urgent care. Keep us posted.

Only good thing that can come of this is that it's a reminder to each and every one of us to watch where we're going.

I hope you aren't sore for very long. I fall alot and some of those falls were when I was younger.

Hope your injuries stay minor. Tryto take it easy.

I have fallen. Its very strange. One minute you are walking, the next on the ground.

I have weak ankles due to various injuries.

Getting it iced quickly is so important.

If you tell them at the hospital when admitted that you have fallen, they put special colored socks on you so everyone knows you are not allowed to get out of bed on your own!

Chisue, amazingly, I saw you! But of course I’ve never met you, so I didn’t know. Dh and I were driving home from HD and you were sitting up, with your host of good Samaritans around you. We thought to stop but, you did appear well attended and alert. I wish we had stopped! I’m so glad you had plenty of angels around, and did not need stitches. We do have good Samaritans around. And know that at least one car’s occupants sent up a prayer for you. When I fell outside the drugstore a few years ago, a fellow ran inside for the chemical packs for me, while the gal from the barber shop helped us get DS’s driving permit from the house so he could drive me to the hospital for 7 stitches above the eye.

Chisue, I feel for you! I hope you'll be able to sleep tonight. You might want to stay in bed tomorrow. A fall is such a shock to the system. I'm so glad your injuries weren't worse.

why yes--a few MONTHS ago I was happily riding my bicycle across a deserted parking lot and the next thing I knew I was falling. I landed on my elbow. WOW it hurt a LOT. DH was with me and we walked home the last mile as I couldn't grasp the bike handlebar to hop back on. Next day I was talked into going to urgent care . Come to find out my elbow was fractured and the lower arm was shattered! Since then there has been two surgeries to put bones in proper places along with a metal plate. I just keep listing how it could have been worse. My dominant arm is uninjured, my head was unscathed, and I saved the bikes life as it landed on top of me etc etc.

I hope you are just bruised and shook up.

All my falls during the past year were horse related. Got spun off on a trail spook just before Thanksgiving last year. I remember the date a Sunday, because I was determined to ride on TG a few days after. Scariest part was the giant bruise that developed right over the spleen area. I had a regular previously scheduled doctors appointment the following week and he confirmed I had a few fractured ribs. Lots of Ibuprofen kept me riding without a miss.

This summer I got bucked off in the arena. Other than some muscle strain and injured pride I was fine.

Last Spring I actually did fall by tripping but that was horse related also. I was up for a few days in Yosemite helping work horses to get them ready for visitors. The horse area was very rustic and the place had been closed for a few years due to the pandemic closures, so there was a lot of overgrowth. I had just washed up, mostly using wipes because the bathrooms were down due to some kind of septic system problem, and was about to leave to drive home and I went to say goodbye to someone. As I walked away I face planted over a hidden tree root. What had us laughing in hysterics was there was a pile of manure just 3 inches in front of where my forehead hit. A very near miss. LOL I stopped in town and got cleaned up in a restaurant bathroom. For some reason the soil up in the area sticks to you. You can't just brush it or even wash it away easily. A bar of Lava will be in my camp kit for next year.

Take care of yourself over the next few days. You might find more aches and pains that surface. I hope your recovery is quick.

So sorry you fell, but glad you had lots of help. I remember one Judge Judy where she said she asked her dr. what was the most important thing to do to stay healthy as one ages and he replied, "Don't fall!" Sorry you were hurt, but thankful it wasn't worse!

bpath, that's incredible! Reminds me of how mtnrd drove by my house and recognized it from the pics I posted, so we got to know each in person....

There was that time I slipped and fell on a freshly waxed floor...I was in heels. A real face plant. So embarrassing! The first thing I did was to look around to make sure no one saw me....then I assessed that I wasn't hurt....other than my pride. Got up and went on my way far more carefully.

wildchild, it was over 40 years ago that we were in Yosemite on a horseback ride...still remember it...so enjoyed it!

So sorry to hear this, and I hope you are feeling better today. Your fall sounds like a simple trip, but I agree with the suggestion to track any falls from here on out, just in case there are more. Good to have that record if you develop a pattern, but hopefully you won't!

THANK YOU! So many nice commiserations from the KT. AND...guess who just rang my doorbell, bringing me a darling Halloween card and cute plant in a pumpkin holder? (Thank you, bpath! Too kind. What a coincidence that you happened to witness my 'spontaneous street art' yesterday.)

The ice did the trick for my knees, but, as expected, the rest of me is pretty sore -- muscles I didn't know I had are complaining (legs, back, neck, etc.). Only my chin is badly bruised; left cheek a little puffy. I got off easy!

Eighty-one years ago at Halloween my DM tripped going down the stairs at our house. She caught a foot in the hem of those then-fashionable wide legged pants. She couldn't grab the banister because she was carrying Baby Me in that arm. Still, I shot out of her arms and slid nicely into the open door to the powder room at the foot of the main stretch of stairs, stopping short of the porcelain bowl. I'm told I didn't even cry. She, however, got a good knocking about on the stairs. Ever resourceful, she added to her bruises with makeup and went to a Halloween party the next night as a bum. Was my spill an anniversary commemoration?

Glad to hear that you didn't break any bones, and sorry to hear about Rho Dodendron's more unfortunate fall.

I generally do not remember falls enough to tell my doctor.

I tripped on an uneven mosaic cobblestone sidewalk in Copacabana (while wearing Crocs), but fortunately this happened in front of a shoe store, and so I went inside and bought some sandals to wear. I still have those sandals and wear them from time to time. I was not injured, although I did land pretty much on my face, but I caught myself with my hands so that my face did not hit the pavement.

I've had lots of falls on bicycles, and so I don't ride so much anymore and stay off mountains. I used to have lots of collisions on the bike path in Venice when it got crowded. One Fourth of July I had two accidents.

I got thrown off a horse in Costa Rica and landed on my back in soft somewhat muddy grassy earth. It mostly knocked the wind out of me, but I did get bruises on my leg that only showed up the next day. I thought I should have gotten a partial refund, but none was offered.

One night I was walking down a rather dark street in Mexico City with a friend when I was about 30, and I walked right into an open manhole. Instantly I was up to my neck in concrete, but I was not hurt. My friend was shocked that I had so suddenly disappeared, and then he helped me climb out of the hole. There should have been streetlights on that street.

Recently I have developed a fear of falling in the bathtub, although I have grab bars. Maybe I need more of them. In Cathedral City, I replaced both bathtubs with walk-in showers, and I'm glad I did, as I am not afraid of falling in the shower. I have a teak bench to sit on, and that is helpful.

I fell face first on a rocky trail jogging years ago. I got a black eye. Make-up took care of it. silly...

Glad you are ok for the most part without serious damage. A similar fall for me ~2 years ago as I tripped over my own feet while in a hurry. Fell on a cement sidewalk and luckily got my hands in front of my face before I landed. My hands were slightly lacerated by the rough sidewalk and bleeding but my face was ok. I wasn't thinking and (having my covid mask on) I adjusted my mask with my bloody hand. I then entered the building where I was going and got a lot of weird looks not knowing that my mask was stained with blood. Unfortunately it wasn't Halloween.

You have my sympathy. Been there, done that. Several times :-)

I seem to have always had a bit of a balance problem. I have experienced falls most of my life although I would attribute many of them when I was younger to carelessness and not watching where I was going rather than just losing my balance. And the older you get, falling in public becomes increasingly embarrassing. I am not the most petite of individuals and thoughts of resembling a beached whale flash through my head as I attempt to regain my composure. And verticality :-)

Fortunately, it does not happen often. But once is more than enough. And the older one gets, the more of a concern it can become. I try to move carefully these days and avoid situations that may be precarious, at least to me. Like sweeping the sidewalk daily to get rid of the chunks of horse chestnut shells the squirrels leave behind or the fir cones that pelt down everyday at this time of year. It can be dangerous out there!

I hope you feel better soon. And have no long lasting or delayed ill-effects.
