How about NOT gray? You are painting the cabinets? Decide that first. Before any wall . Before that? Get all your lighting installed. I'd use Torch star 3". Fabulous . Don't need to go above 3000k for a clear bright look.

Modifications to cabinets? You're ditching the desk I hope.

Personally my favorite quartz? Mont Fantasy. Least faux of them all. Gorgeous.....really.

Do you hate a cool grey too? A blue-grey to complement your wood instead of making them look muddy? I love your wood cabinets

When designing/decorating a room, the wall color is best selected last, not first. There are thousands of paint colors, so it's easier to select one to work with your furnishings and decor than the other way around.

Also, taping up options the way you've shown is not preferred. Your eye can't discern which color is best when surrounded by multiple options, especially when shown against the existing color.

Why do you need to paint the whole house the same color? It doesn't look like a totally open layout.

@JAN MOYER Thank you for your perspective. We are painting the cabinets, which is also part of my color choosing dilemma. I am definitely getting rid of the desk area and replacing with under counter wine fridge and a beverage center. We are also expanding the island with an 18 inch overhang and pillars. I am replacing all appliances as well as cutting down the two tier counter to one level. The electrician is coming this week to install the recessed lights. I was surprised how plastic the quartz looked in relation to the marble and Quarzite at the yard. It does not look that way in isolation. I would love to do marble, but it seems like it would create a kitchen maintenance challenge for the family. I like the Calacatta Gold, because it seems bring in browns and grays.

@kl23 I will try a cool gray, but I am not a fan of red, orange, yellow, blue, purple and not a fan of creams or beiges either. I like warm greens, taupes, grays and browns. I tried Revere Pewter and it is dark, but I really like it and wanting to find a lighter version that retains its feel.

@Diana Bier Interiors, LLC Thanks for the tips that you shared. Agree having all of the colors on the wall is confusing - it was my attempt to get the "mood" of a color and narrow down to what spoke to me bigger than a chip. I am choosing 4 coordinating colors for throughout the house with one being a primary. This approach worked really well for me with my greens earlier, but I am willing to change it up.

I like how revere pewter shows up so far - its darker ins some rooms.

The color on the right here. BM Edgecomb Gray turns very white and steely on my walls (bottom left). The same with SW Drift of Mist.

I really like that last photo of the granite. It‘s very neutral, and looks very much like this Mont Fantasy quartz that Jan Moyer mentioned as the most realistic quartz. I agree with her and others that once you’ve chosen the countertop material, the next step is choosing the cabinet color. Only then will choosing a wall color be meaningful.

As mentioned by others, you usually chose paint to go with your furniture and decor which I have no idea of what you have. Personally I prefer Agreeable Gray to Wordly Gray, and I understand the plan is also to paint your kitchen. The following illustrates one of your paint colour choices.

@lisedv Thank you! Some of my furniture pieces are coming back, but I am buying a lot of new furniture a d decor too. I currently have largely browns, silvers and gold.

Thanks all for the advice! I went with colors of revere pewter, stonington gray, edgecomb gray and gray owl in different rooms. Revere pewter in the kitchen.

Quick update - The selection of Edgecomb Gray as a base color turned out to be a flesh-toned nightmare cross builders beige in my house that it had to come down. We are the process of getting those areas repainted to Gray Owl, which works well in my house. An expensive mistake, but it looked so much different on the wall en masse than in the samples painted. I won't even post pictures of it as it is so awful.

On a positive note, Revere Pewter, Stonington Gray and Gray Owl landed well.

Current status is a mess, but removing the two level counter, the desk area and the over cooktop cabinet really opened things up:

I still have a long way to go - counter stools, kitchen table, more lighting and fixing that range hood that was installed poorly, but it’s definitely a brighter and happier kitchen, which was my goal.

Looks like a brand new kitchen, looks clean and fresh !

The kitchen has the same dimensions and layout. We did remove the two-tier bar in the sunroom and a kneewall between the kitchen and the family room that is not pictured. All else changed were the colors of the cabinets, floors, wall, counters and backsplash and added new appliances. The walls are BM Revere Pewter and the tiles BR Chloe tile. It is much brighter and cooler in feel, but will be adding more natural wood accents to warm it up. So happy to lose the orange. Will add more pictures as it is finished.
