Finished Bathroom Pics (two bathrooms!)--very pic heavy
Comments (41)Wooo!!! Cat, I am stuck at home because of the snow storm so wandered around here not looking at anything in particular and came upon your thread. I totally agree with you on the shower curtain choice. Regardless of whether I have the money to spare or not, keeping those suckers clean is a nuisance over time. We have a glass shower door that was installed back in 2003 and I can't tell you how much I hate cleaning it. Not that the door is all that dirty, but a shower curtain is way easier, and you can change the look/style whenever you feel like it. Can't do that with a pricey shower door. Anyway, everything looks lovely as usual, including the "prom" dress :-) Love, love those circular tiles, and the floor tiles that look like fabric. Gorgeous. What colour is that again? It looks greyish on my monitor....See MoreHelp me design a bathroom around this vanity! Stuck on tile/motif
Comments (14)Just finished tiling my bathroom and I too will be installing a contemporary dark cabinet (American standard studio.. http://www.americanstandard-us.com/products/productDetail.aspx?id=1925) but instead it will a have squared sink also sitting on top of a glass counter top. I wanted to somehow tie in the color of the glass tiles and counter top and this is the combo I came up with. my wife and just about anybody who has seen the bathroom absolutely loved it. Ill try and post some pics. Trying to explain how these tiles look together just does not do them any justice glass tiles from: (have more green to them than the pic shows) http://www.glasstilestore.com/product_p/taobliss.htm subway tiles from: http://www.tileshop.com/products/detail.aspx?categoryID=6&subcategoryID=37&familyID=1277&Record_ID=8656...See MoreBathroom tile spacing - even or slivers?
Comments (21)Thank you so much to everyone for your input! And that is some impressive cut @Creative Tile Eastern CT! I greatly appreciate the photoshopped image @groveraxle. THAT is how I would've preferred the tile to be laid -- much more centered. I have asked my tiler about all of the issues mentioned here: - Lippage: they have checked each tile to make sure there is a smooth transition. They mentioned that it is common for 12 x 24 tiles to occasionally be bowed but they sorted through the tile and picked out flatter pieces. - 2 piece tile around vent: they were also very frustrated that this had to be done because they had gone through 6 or 7 tiles trying to make that cut but the tile kept cracking. It was very surprising because it should have been a very easy cut and that is always what they do, but they believe this tile was fired at a very high temperature so this was the next best option. - Centering: they measured everything before cutting and laying down the tiles and felt this was the best option because otherwise there would have been a sliver at the top right corner of the vanity and back wall, to the left of the toilet. I'm not sure where is better to have the slivers or if by the vanity would even have been noticeable. Overall, I'm a bit frustrated with the tile not being "centered", but I do trust my tiler and am hopeful that the slivers on the left are not as noticeable once the door is back on. The grout is going in today (I'll double check on the gap around the baseboard) and I will post an updated picture! I am also doing the same tile in my master bath and will be much more attentive this time around! I plan to measure out and sketch a few scenarios to avoid slivers, especially since I will be walking on that floor daily!...See MoreWhat are some cosmetic ways we can update this bathroom?
Comments (65)@Anna it is paint. It was 2 coats of White Dove. Painter decided to do 3 coats of paint instead of primer plus 2 coats, which is what he had told us he would do. Not sure if it not using primer was the right decision because we are still seeing blue come through in some spots. When I think back to it, what was supposed to be the first coat didn't seem evenly applied everywhere. It seemed like it was applied in patches or something. I had assumed it was some kind of patching he was doing so I didn't question it. I wanted to wait a few days to see how I felt about it. I like the word you chose "fresher". It does also feel crisper and more modern. And actually the word you chose, calmer, also applies. It's more cheery and inviting, too. I sense that every time I walk into the master bathroom. I don't know if some part of that is that I disliked the blue so much and found it so overwhelming and depressing that anything would be an improvement. But I do like it each and every time I walk in so I think it's more than that. I think it's working for the most part. I had an instinct that the color would not work as well in the guest bathroom but I took a deep breath and crossed my fingers hoping I would be wrong. But I think that was right and it is not working as well there. One, the guest bath has no windows at all and gets no light at all. But I think the main issues is that the countertop seems much more grayish beige and strong and less creamy than in the master. So now I am toying with the idea of either - changing the vanity - or paying an online color designer to pick the color and repainting. I am totally resisting the idea of repainting but that may be what I have to do. (it's really, really difficult to capture the EXACT tone that I am seeing - I actually had to manipulate the color a little to get closer to what I am SEEING versus what shows in the picture. But when I adjust the countertop it changes other things so it's hard to get it all ALL accurate). In this bathroom, I am getting the "old tooth" that @Jennifer Hogan warned me about. (which BTW Jennifer because of your post I went back and spent a lot more time laying out the samples I had against the tub, tile, and countertop in the master bath, and how I ended up choosing White Dove. The Cloud White - which is the one I was going to choose before your post - was too white. (so thank you so much - and I know that you were warning me about going white all together. Wondering what you think of the final result anyway.) But I did not do the same in the guest bath. I had the painter coming the next day and I just closed my eyes and went with the same color. I should have just had him do the Master and waited on the guest if I needed more time.)...See MoreHU-832327864
