Open sun room/living room problems

Ugh i just moved into this apartment and im having trouble with what to do with this closed off sunroom space… i was going to just make it a plant oasis but i have this furniture and i dont know where else to put it. i need help with the placement of the lving room furniture. the furniture i have is almost too small for the space … i’m open to buying diff furniture but i want to keep the couch. what should i do with closed sun room? any suggestions for new layout?

Not a pro so can't help with layout. In terms of the sunroom, place plants throughout the room. No need to get rid of furniture.

Put your white storage unit under the TV, then move your rattan bookcase where the white storage unit was. That should free up space for more plants in the sunroom. I would add one really comfy chair or chaise in the sunroom as well.

Sunrooms can get really hot if they are facing south or west or don't have good overhangs like you do. It may be a bear to cool and heat. You could leave it open for now and you can always add a wall later if you think it is too open. The open plan is just longing for a large party with people wandering back and forth. However if it is meant as more of an "away" room then the wall is more appropriate. Alternatively, you could leave a kitchen peninsula (without sink) there but omit the wall. That would give you a great place to put food and party stuff for a gathering in the sunroom. I think I like this idea the best of all since it still is open for parties and somewhat closed off for a sense of separation.

That really leaves you with the current arrangement, replacing the grey chair by the front window with kid stuff and leaving the floating living space opposite the TV. I'd really look into rerouting cable so the TV can be where the large art piece is. It's not usually very expensive and will be necessary in order to keep your walkway from running right in front of the tv.

Marie13100, I mentioned in the beginning we are in the process of remodeling our kitchen and we needed to move the dining table into our living room temporarily and cover everything from the dust. Lynn G, you’re right. Having to look at the wall would be a bit depressing. The most recent floor plan I posted that had the sectional along the window and long wall would be perfect because we can view directly outside the patio door which is in the dining room.

You want to create "islands" floating in that long space. Judianna's idea is great--floating sofa with a great looking entry console against the sofa back and leaving a walkway to the stairs and across the room to kitchen. However, I don't think a 10' sofa will work since the room is only 12' wide. It will be too crammed. (Such a long sofa also means you'll have people lined up side by side.) Can you get a shorter sofa if it hasn't been delivered yet? Then have two smaller chairs facing the sofa anchored on a large rug, A shorter sofa and two armchairs will be cozier in such a large space and give you more seating flexibility. Get a round table at the dining end to create curves in such a linear space.

Yes, agree withe @ratherbeatthebeach on white cubed shelving unit under TV. TV needs a pices under it to anchor it. Good idea to move tall rattan shelf piece from sun room to now empty space in room with couch. How about using the wicker chest that's under the window as a coffee table -the round piece is too small. Put a tray on surface of chest to set drinks etc.I would love a cozy chair & side table in that sun room!. Where is that huge mirror going? Cool rug!

How about something like this? You can buy a leather butterfly chair and side table for your living room (move the leather ottoman), place the white bookcase under the TV (that should hide all the wiring), where the bookcase was place the rattan bookcase.

In your sunroom, move the filing cabinet and dog bed an fill the back window wall with plants in baskets, pots, stands, etc... I you have room for a chair in the sunroom, a nice rattan one would be nice

I love the idea of putting the white cubes under the tv but its smightly smaller in width so i thoucht that was a big no no… idk ill try it today and upload pics! @ratherbeatthebeach thsnk you for the suggestion of where to put the rattan!

@KW PNW Z8 i never thiught of using the wicker chest as a coffee table great idea! ill try it out as far as the mirror im not sure where to put it i definitely want it as a leaning mirror but its slightly big tor that space. i dont think it will fit in any other room anyway. i tried doing it kitty corner right there but it was weird to sit on the couch and just be staring at yourself lol so im open to suggestions on thst as well. im kind of limited as far as space options but im open to hearing any input!

Even if it not as wide as your TV, I think it will look better than having all that wiring hanging in vew. Eventually perhaps you can replace it with another piece of furniture, take a look at Ikea Besta series, they have very nice TV cabinets with storage at good quality and prices.

@HU-119635555 I have a ” leaner“ mirror in my bedroom which is facing closet. Do you have space in bedroom for your mirror? Years ago I had a wicker chest just like yours & it made a super coffer table with storage. I had glass top cut for mine but a big tray would work & could add color. Also, I agree with @lisedv that even if that white piece isn’t quite wide enough it will look much better than bare wall & wires. Maybe set a plant or something to one side of it to visually widen the space it fills.

I love @ratherbeatthebeach suggestion to move the white shelves under the TV and put the rattan bookcase where the white shelves are now. I was thinking the same thing. If it were me, I'd find another home for the filing cabinet thing in the sunroom and go for low furniture that doesn't block the windows. I would definitely put at least one or maybe two chairs in the sunroom with a side table for coffee / tea / whatever beverage. I love @lisedv Ikea rattan chair suggestion. And then I love @lisedv mockups with lining the room with plants using plant stands and pots on the floor. Alternatively you could put a low bench or two under a window to use as a plant stand. What a pretty space you'll have. I love your rug and sofa combination.
