ready for living room overhaul but can't get over awkward room. help!
Comments (13)Love the color of the walls and that wonderful paneled wall. I agree that the tv is in the right place on the paneled wall. Here is a floor plan which may work for you. Use the space that is not under the catwalk above as the seating area. This way the walk thru will be under the lower ceiling. Tuck a 87" wide sofa with a chaise end on the right of the fireplace with a console behind. Install wall sconces for lighting at the console instead of lamps. Lose the big lamp (it's ver nice) and use smaller scaled floor lamps. Get a matching 66" loveseat and angle off the sofa. this will create a more open layout and not so boxed off from the kitchen. Add two matching swivel chairs. The coffee table is a 48" diameter with four round ottomans or floor pillows. The rug is 12 x 15 so that it anchors the furniture and includes the paneled wall and the fireplace into one cohesive area. Along the staircase wall is 10" deep low cabinet or bookcase up to the ceiling for games, books, etc. Something like an Ikea Pax with frosted doors, simple and functional for storage. Hope this helps....See MoreHelp with small awkward open living area
Comments (10)The pics came through now. Both sets. Seems like they get stuck somewhere in cyberspace sometimes and take a while to show up. It is very hard to see the layout and possibilities available to you with all the stuff around. Spend time in removing the clutter first. Remove it from everywhere including all the horizontal and vertical surfaces. Once that is done, it will be easier to see where your furniture should go to maximize the breezes....See MoreAwkward Living Area Layout Help
Comments (2)Your room only seems staged for watching TV. Do you expect to have a conversation with anyone? If so place the new sofa under the windows and have some flexible seating facing the sofa which can swivel to watch the TV or seating placed in an L. I would add onto your media wall with additional pieces to correlate. Something ineffective about the light bulbs in the ceiling lights. They have no sparkle. 5x 8 Camvas Shelving unit as art...See MoreAwkward living room/den area combo - help with colors and layout?
Comments (5)Dont worry about the divided floor, as long as you divide your functional groupings in the same way. That is, ok to use the smaller zone as your TV room, but only if all the furniture for that fits on that side of the walkway. Otherwise, put the TV on the wall to the right of the fireplace, and set up your seating arrangement in an L to encompass both (and maybe an extra chair or two for visitors). Then the "den" makes a natural office, etc., and you have plenty of seating in the larger space for hanging out or conversation....See MoreHU-16959546
