The only acceptable solution I've found is to drill into the vinyl casing and installed the inside mount blind that way. We have Atrium vinyl windows and this will void the warranty. But with only 1 year of warranty left, I'm not gonna worry about it. Had I realized this upfront, I would have done a better job on my homework and would have chosen a different vinyl window mfg. Window World in my area will allow you to drill and mount on the vinyl casing without voiding the warranty. But that is 20/20 hindsight. So a couple days ago we finally got tired of living in a fish bowl and ordered blinds for the recently renovated first floor.

Color temperature (warm vs. cool) is measured in Kelvin (K). As Wdccruise noted, 2700K is warm white. There actually are warmer color temperatures, but they are definitely more of a novelty yellow, not for general service. Incandescents categorized as "soft white" range between 2700 and 3000K. Lamps in the range of 3000-4000 are considered a pretty neutral white. Color temps of 5000-6000 are closer to daylight. Since humans are conditioned to expect light to be warmer later in the day (first with sunset and then light from candles, fire, and eventually incandescent lights), daylight color temperatures can feel pretty unnatural in the evening. The other thing to look for in LEDs is color rendering index (CRI). This measures how well a lamp reveals true colors compared to natural light on a scale of 1 to 100. 80 and above is acceptable for general service for most people; 90+ is better but the difference may be lost on people who aren't sensitive to such things. LEDs save something like 90% compared to incandescents, and you get even more savings on lamp replacements because LEDs last many times longer than incandescents. The lifetime advantage is huge when you have high ceilings and can't easily change your own light bulbs. The thing about a utility program is that you might not get a choice in the color temperature or CRI. My guess is they offer something broadly appealing to people accustomed to incandescents, so probably 2700-3000K. ComEd's website (not sure who your power company is but it looks like Ameren offers a similar program) says they install Energy Star light bulbs, and Energy Star requires a CRI of at least 80. You can ask before they install. Good luck, I think you will be very happy with the change!

Get white oak, sand it....and put clear coat on it. The most forgiving to daily use, ever. Or stick to a medium brown tone, not gray, not red......and test ON YOUR SITE,.....select and proceed. : ) The difference in price will come back to you in saved agonizing over pink and red tones - hard to eliminate in any red oak. Failing that? Go to a very good flooring store, pick a quality engineered 3/4 inch thick white oak pre finished hardwood, ( from multiples of finishes ) and you'll know exactly what you're getting before you even rip.
