Replaced tub how do I replace backerboard and tile?
Comments (2)You should be okay just to attach cement board to the studs and tile. I see a couple of problems, though, and sooner or later this is all going to have to come apart and be overhauled. The first problem is that there's no way to have a continuous vapor barrier (if there's one at all). Secondly, if the rest of the tub surround is over greenboard, it should be replaced, anyway. It's way outdated....See MoreHow do I know if I need to replace my windows?
Comments (11)I presume your present windows are single pane. Any storm windows? As you have been told, the pratice of replacing the material around the mullions is reglazing. If these windows are 4 over 4, or even 8 over 8, the reglazing is a big job. Caulking is done where the window frame sits in the frame both outside and inside. Obviously, you live in a part of the country not noted for mild winters so anything you can do to elivate the drafts should pay some dividends. Now, if I was looking at your home for a possible purchase, my first consideration is how much money will I need to spend to bring this home up to date. However, if you spend (pick a number) to replace windows with double or triple pane vinyl/fiberglass windows, would that cost bring a higher price for your home in relation to the neighborhood?...See MoreHow do you find DIY replacement windows?
Comments (4)+1 to WoW's comments. If the windows are painted not stained, I prefer vinyl or fiberglass. If you are going with full tearouts, the Marvin Integrity is not a bad choice and is generally pretty reasonable. If the Inline is available, it offers superior performance ratings similar to premium vinyl units....See MoreHow do I install blinds on this window
Comments (7)I would hang roman shades or bamboo blinds into the drywall high above the window (outside mount), just at the level of a high curtain rod, combined with curtains. Make the rod wider than the window so you can pull the curtains to the side and see the whole window. Ideally the curtains go to the floor. You can see examples of this in some of the pictures on this blog about window treatments, and it looks fabulous. (warning, photo intensive link) It's about 1/3 of the way down the post, under the "curtain panels paired with blinds" section. hth Here is a link that might be useful: Cote de Texas top ten #4, curtains...See Morejimtnc
