Is there any cure for this lemon tree disease?

Comments (8)Looks like scale, all of it. Neem oil applied repeatedly will smother the scale. This little tree is very heavily invested, so this will take multiple applications. You don't mention if the tree is indoors or outdoors or where you live, so Coleen's advice is good - do not apply any hort oil if temps are above 85 degrees F. Comments (13)Hey Jure, sounds like you are using a good citrus fertilizer mix except for no magnesium (Mg). Try getting a small bag at a nursery or box store. If they don't have it in stock, you can buy it at a drug store as Epsom salts; it's a little more expensive in the pharmaceutical grade vs. the ag grade but isn't expensive for the small quantity you need. A small 3-5 lb. bag will last you at least a year. The element is so important for the complete metabolism of the plant, especially citrus, I'm a bit surprised it's not listed on the citrus fertilizer tag. It should be listed as a secondary element along with calcium and sulfur. As I suggested earlier, a citrus nutritional spray should be used several times a year and will also contain magnesium as well as the other minor (trace) elements such as iron, manganese, zinc etc. Just be sure when you spray that you don't get the spray on anything you don't want stained because it will not come off easily. It would probably be wise to move the pot onto an area like some grass. By the way, citrus absorbs trace elements way more efficiently through the leaves than through the root system (make sure the undersides of the leaves receive the spray since the biggest absorption occurs there). Can't stress enough how important a complete nutritional fertilizer and/or spray is and the mix you are using is lacking several besides the Mg, such as iron and boron. Hope this has not been too wordy but consulting with citrus growers plus my own growing experience here in SW Fla. has brought this home to me many times. Good luck and let us know how well it goes....See MoreLemon Tree Pest/Disease help
Comments (8)You can use cotton balls soaked with rubbing alcohol to wipe the visible scale off then rinse the leaves with plain water, and finally apply some type of horticultural oil ("all-season" or "light/ultralight"). Scale is a PITA so it requires multiple sprays over several weeks to keep it under control. You don't have to remove the leaves but some people with older trees that have more dense branching and foliage that is infested with scale, often prune those branches out completely (but yours isn't that size from what I can see in your pics). That said, if you can somehow control the ants (often hard when the plant is outside) that will help with keeping them from "farming" scale and/or aphids on the trees. If you see ants (or even aphids), you can spray them off with plain water through a hose or hand-held sprayer....See MoreHoward Martin
