There are two pieces of very different art that struck me deeply and I still think of. The first is of a melting traditional (theme) carpet, signifying how quickly and easily old traditions change. This is actually a carpet woven in this pattern, not a painting or digitally created image; I don't know enough about weaving to know how that was done. My photo isn't a great one, but the art truly moved me. I saw it in the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto

The other is an ancient 2200 year old copy of an even older sculpture that I saw in the Vatican Museum, called Laocoon and Sons. The face of Laocoon still hits me in the gut when I see it.

This is one of my favorite pieces of art by artist Caravaggio, called The Supper at Emmaus, 1601, in the National Gallery, London. He used a lot of light and shadow, and as models, used figures from ordinary walks of life rather than the aristocracy. Edited to correct name of gallery.

Toronto...Thank you for posting the photo of the melting traditional carpet. I, too, am moved by seeing it and shall carry it around with me for some time to come. It's an amazing piece of contemplative artwork. I would love to meet the artist who created it.

FWIW, the Ringling Museum in Sarasota has a replica of the Laocoon - it's larger than life, IIRC. They have many classical sculptures that haunted me as a child.

Carol, it wasn't really a museum but an art installation at Grace Farms in New Canaan CT. The piece you see in the background had scraps of fabric and visitors were encouraged to each weave a scrap into the sculpture.
