Staircase- paint or not paint. Need help!

Hi! I need your advices.

We are finally renovating our home. We picked light europian oak engineered wood for main floor. Second floor has gray laminate. Although I want seamless look, we don’t have budget for changing the whole flooring. Also gray is more useful for our bedrooms.

Now, I decided to paint staircase black(treads) and white(risers) to connect these two different flooring color. For more contemporary look, we will remove the existing rails, newels and balusters and change the last rounded step with regular one. I want to use black metal or cable railing to compliment our new black door and other accents. Also the walls will be white (Behr - night blooming jasmine).

The questions are:

1-Is painting stairs a good idea for more cohesive look?

2-Should I paint stairs black and white? Is this a good idea? Or should I paint them all white and use black/ gray runner? Is it too traditional for a contemporary/modern style house?

Or any other ideas?
