Does anyone know why some seedlings are rotting while others are fine?

Brian Fanning
last year

My saguaro seedlings are almost 6 months old. I have many that are potted in different containers. Some are larger than others but all looked to be healthy. Lately a few have been rotting into the soil, while the ones around it are still fine. I give them a good watering once a week soaking from the bottom. Every couple days I'll spray the top to keep it from getting too dry, since they are still young. This may be normal but just want to make sure I'm not going to lose them all one by one. Can anyone help with why they are dying? I appreciate anyone with advice.
P.S. Do seedlings also have a dormant period where I should water much less during the fall/winter months??
