happy, if we ever really had an overnight guest, it would be a miracle. LOL I should be calling it the cat room because that's who will occupy it 99% of the time. Cats got it good at my house. LOL It's a second bedroom I had to call something, so I thought calling it the guest bedrooms would be appropriate, since the 3rd. bedroom is being called the office. It's just DH, me and the pets. Kidding aside I was actually going to look for an antique or old desk fan for the room as a decorative accent as well as a functional piece when needed.

One of the most stunning bedrooms I ever saw in a real home taught me a valuable lesson. It had a chair rail like yours. The bottom was painted white, like the ceiling and window and door casing and baseboards, and the walls above the chair rail were painted orange, a bright orange with a little darkness to it, like a ripe persimmon or a dark marigold. Brass door and window hardware and chandelier. White bedspread and grey pillows and afghan. White full-length sheers at the windows. I HATE orange, but that room was gorgeous. I saw it once in morning and it was light and lovely. Then I saw it around sunset, and the room was glowing! I know I'm joining in late to this conversation, and you may already have your mind set on something else, but I have to disagree with chair rails being limited to dining rooms. They work anywhere when used well. One of the best ways to use them is to keep a room from looking too weird or dark when you want to use a strong actual color (not grey) on the walls to increase the feeling of spaciousness with the walls, or keep from having a blah boring dusty looking room. Color can make a silk purse from a sow's ear. A chair rail with white underneath can keep it a lady's purse.

It appears to have a cut out for a cord at the back, no? If it is too short to use as a desk, I would get shelf brackets or even blocks of wood cut to sit on top of the current shelf, lining the edges at the height that you want/need. Two on the sides and one at the back. Then have a piece of plywood cut to fit the top (measure carefully!). Slide it to sit on top of the blocks. Use the interior space as a drawer (a shallow basket?) And use the top as a desk or vanity. A mirror on the back wall? It will be a vanity. A cork board made of cork tiles…a bulletin board! Done!

How about a throw at the end of the bed and a couple of print pillows with that same color in them .It wouyld be nice to see the whole space too. Post the pics here in comments and make sure to tell us what color that bedding is . DO NOT start another post .
