How high are the ceilings? If you hang a chandy in the center of the room, you have to be sure you have 'head clearance' underneath.

The style of the chandelier, imo, depends on the decor in the space. If you have a very formal feel in the guest room, then a crystal chandy might be great. If you have a more casual or cottage feel, a heavy crystal chandelier wouldn't work.

les, thanks for responding. The ceiling is 10 feet. I think I want this room to be more of an informal feminine room with a bit of shabby chic and country thrown in. I'm picturing lace curtains, not victorian, but more cotton with lace trim sort of thing. The room is painted RH silve sage and will have 4ft. of wainscoting around the bottom half of the room. It will have a simple white fireplace.

I'm imagining white cotton bedspread with embroidered pillows that have little red strawberry or cherry appliques. I imagine yellow as an accent color maybe in the throw rugs.

I'm telling you all these details so you can get an idea of how I want the room to feel. Sorry, I only know how to describe how a room makes me feel. Pathetic decorating abilities I know. LOL

I want to put a bit of black in the room and that may come in the way of an iron bed. Do you think a black iron chandelier would look OK? Nothing fussy, just simple with simple cloth shades. The bed may very well end up stained wood, depends what I find and I'll know when I find it.

Another question for those of you who know how to adorn chandeliers, should I buy little lamp shades or leave the bulbs naked? The stem of the candles look kind of squatty. Is that just me, what do you see? Thanks for your help.

Just had a panic attack about the chandelier and wonder if the size is too large. It's a little over 2 ft. tall. That's big. What do you think about the size?

I think that would be fine for a 10 ft. ceiling, brutuses. It's a lovely chandelier.

brutuses, personally, I like shades on a chandelier. Tuesday Morning sometimes has a great selection. If you're unsure of the size, www.onthebrightside.com is very helpful. I had a mini-chandelier in the kitchen that was too bright and they helped me select the right size.

Glad you like the ones at Ballards. I have no idea why my computer doesn't like that site. It's the only one I have trouble loading pages on. They always seem to have a nice selection at much more reasonable prices than Horchow.

Why don't you just wait on the shades til you have the rest of the room done. Then you can see what style it morphs into.

Will do OS, the wainscoting is up and I think DH is going to finish the room soon. Can't keep up with him. He's having so much fun now that it's time for all the fun stuff, that he's jumping from one room to the other completing stuff. Every time I go to the house it's a great surprise to see what's he's finished.

Brutuses, I love your chandelier... it's the same one we put in our master bedroom closet last month. I ordered the pomeroy shades in green, and I think they look great with our wallpaper. We have a parsons chair upholstered in Ballard's sage check, but I was afraid shades in the same fabric would be too much.

They were having a nice sale on the shades, btw. I think the light fixture is plain enough to do something really ***fun*** with the shades, as soon as you select your bedding and other furnishings.

kswl, thanks for posting the photo with the shades. Like with lots of things, it's difficult for me to picture shades on a chandi that came without shades. Looks so pretty.

If you don't have a ceiling fan in the guest bedroom you might consider providing a stand fan or table fan for your guests. Just a thought. :^)

happy, if we ever really had an overnight guest, it would be a miracle. LOL I should be calling it the cat room because that's who will occupy it 99% of the time. Cats got it good at my house. LOL It's a second bedroom I had to call something, so I thought calling it the guest bedrooms would be appropriate, since the 3rd. bedroom is being called the office. It's just DH, me and the pets.

Kidding aside I was actually going to look for an antique or old desk fan for the room as a decorative accent as well as a functional piece when needed.
