Defective generic brand heaters/filter flow question
Comments (5)The water inside is bad. They should be dry inside to be safe. As for the water flow I used a piece of window screen mesh and taped it to the back of the hood and then let it fall into the tank in front of the filter output. It breaks the flow up enough to keep the riptide down. My 30 gallon has an emp 280, a whisper 30 and an UGF running with all four venturi tubes bubbling. My Orandas are large and they need a lot of filter. The one small oranda was getting washed around when he came up to the top to eat and this helped a lot. Make sure if you try this you stay home and check that you aren't splashing water out of the tank....See MoreBrand of Generator for Home Use
Comments (15)I would also consider getting a used Honda... In 1989 I bought two portable Honda's to supply power on jobsites. Those two have been in almost daily service ever since and neither one has given us any problem, aside from replacing a couple burned out mufflers and the fact that mine are a real PITA to change the spark plug. The spark plug is right on top of the engine about 1" below the gas tank and we have to pull the gas tank to change the plug, consequently these units have sometimes run as much as 18 months between changing the plug. The new ones have the same spark plug araingement but they put a tube in the fuel tank that you can reach down through to get to the plug. What I find most amazing is how easy the Honda's are to start. Turn the switch on, press the fuel primer bulb twice and give a light pull on the starter cord. Yes, I said a light pull. The guys on my crew were so impressed with how easy they start that they began betting each other to see who could start it with the lightest pull. My 8yr old nephew has started it on the first pull many times. Once started they will instantly go to full load without any warm up time. The only down side is that you have to refuel it about every 8 or 9 hours, but in my case that is not a problem either because I keep it on my service truck, which has two 60gal gas tanks, and I rigged an electric fuel pump with an 8ft hose and nozzle, so when I have to refuel I pull the truck up close, turn the pump switch on and use the hose just like I was at a gas station....See MoreStandby Generator Brands : GE, Generac other?
Comments (24)Chiming in here - we were without power for Ten days in a freak October Snow dumping 2 feet on the ground. I will tell ya that there were fights in gas lines, at stations that actually had power and gas. And the lines were long. After day 3, I actually found a generator. A generac 8000 XP, for 1200 bucks, a steal compared to some popple like my brother who bought a no name brand 6000 W for a grand off the back of a tractor trailer. Now we had a generator and had to find fuel, driveing an hour and waiting a hour to fill up 100 bucks of fuel was bbnot a pleasant experience ( my car still stinks). Anyhow being that I had to half ass wire everything and scroung for recepticals I was able to get up and running. The generac ran 14 hrs on 8 gallons of fuel and never skipped a beat. It now has 60 hours on it and was able to let family and friends have hot showers, hot coffee, lights and charge their phones laptops and whatever they needed. Kept my freezer frozen ad refridgerator cold. This is an really nice generator, fuel filters, oil filters, low oil warnings, protection up the kazoo. My brothers no name started to rattle a bit towards the end, has no protection, I will even bet it does not have a cast iron sleeved motor. But considering what I went through, and the pain in th butt it is to get fuel during a power outage, and filling it up, and chaining it up, hearing nothing else but this thing running I see the money being better spent on a propane powered, whole home automatic one. For 3 k you can get set up with a real decant one. ya a bit more but time is money. Also being it would be enclosed, and run on propain whatever brand it would you would never have a problem. Propain is so much cleaner, the built in is so much quieter if I were you I would invest right....See Moresolid surface counter & sink - consider "generic" brands?
Comments (23)I should have ordered a sample of their White Frost but I didn't see that that is the sink color until I had placed the order. I will probably just order an additional sample. I wonder if it is not the same exact color formula as Glacier White so they had to give it a different name but it actually looks the same. If it's just a tiny bit off, it should be fine, since the change in plane from counter to sink will change how one sees it anyway. It just seems weird to have 2 different colors. Another Corian sink comes in Designer White, which I did order, but I have a feeling that's going to be too bright. HiMacs has counters and sinks in Arctic White and Ivory White (both in both colors), so I ordered those samples. At least I know they will match each other. While this is all frustrating and tedious, I am feeling good about ordering all these samples. We have pretty much decided on flooring, and when we receive our samples from Scherr's, maybe we will be able to decide on cabinet fronts. It would be sooo nice if we can just go with the colors and coats that they apply instead of ordering them raw and having someone do it locally. When the Corian and HiMac samples come in, hopefully we will be able to make a decision based on those. I would love to move on to other decisions!...See Morecolleenoz
