Bugs! My nightmares have come true
Comments (18)I see an amazing response from ladybugs when aphids pop out in droves on my Japanese plum (loquat) trees. First, I think the aphids are going to wipe me out and the next thing I see are LOTS of ladybug nymphs and they really do great work. Yes, they don't eat all the aphids but they do a good enough job that I don't need to step in with other measures. It's probably a lot different with indoor plants where you don't have as many natural aphid enemies. If you haven't ever seen a larval ladybug, be sure and Google up a photo so you don't accidentally kill them thinking they are bad guys. They look awful compared to the cute adult....See MoreI’m at my wits end! Long story short: sump pumps been a nightmare
Comments (3)When you say you're draining into the sewer, I sure hope you don't mean into your septic system. That would be bad. The "thunk" is probably the reverse valve dropping back when the pump stops. We have that in our rental house too. I'm not messing with ours (because: rental, and we're only here a few more months), but I'd look at cobbling together some sort of anti-hammer. Plus maybe look at how the pipes are touching the house structure and padding that. I did find a useful article on what you describe that may help: https://homes.winnipegfreepress.com/winnipeg-real-estate-articles/renovation-design/ASK-THE-INSPECTOR-How-to-quiet-sump-pump-drain-pipe-racket/id-3295...See Moremy Christmas nightmare
Comments (9)So sorry, you got a mess like this. Hopefully, you havent paid him, and I wouldnt pay him either. I do agree with the others, it does need to be totally gutted, because it looks so bad, but, also, since the exterior is that bad, the underneath, is probably not waterproofed, or if he did any, it is most likely not done correctly. If it isnt gutted and redone, it will have to be redone before very long, and by then, it will cost you a lot more, because, there will be a lot of water damage on the walls under all that mess....See MoreDo you remember my mosquito bite nightmare?
Comments (10)Did you get to the doctor for an antibiotic sooner this time? I've had only one really bad reaction to a bite - only it was really a sting. Bald faced hornet behind my ear. I probably should have called the doctor but I called my friend who is our health department head nurse instead. My mother would have an awful local reaction to any kind of bee or wasp sting. And she always seemed to have yellowjackets nest near, maybe because she had two artificial ponds in her back yard? It would take prescription benadryl, prednisone to make her comfortable and healing, almost an annual event. I don't know what she would have done if she couldn't take oral antihistamines. I don't think I've met anyone who has a reaction to a mosquito bite as you do. Let us know how you are doing. I'm not terribly bothered by mosquitoes often. Most luckily because I hate the feeling of something like DEET on my skin. My friend the nurse? Used it on her small daughters. She said she was less worried about DEET than West Nile Virus when it came to her children....See More- 3 years ago
