If the door to your closet can be centered in the 8' wall, you'll find reaching everything easier. You could build a couple of corner cabinets (for your accessories -- hats, purses, etc.) with 16" deep side walls (two 8" vertical boards on each side w/thick plywood triangle shaped horizontal shelves between them). You'd attach the fixtures (stainless steel is much stronger than the plastic ones) that would hold your rods to the sides of the vertical boards. At least on the wider wall, use two rods, one hung high enough so that shirts can be hung on it and not touch the floor. The higher rod should be above the lower rod the same distance as from the floor to the lower rod. You may need to support the longer rods in the middle with a hold drilled through a vertical 2"x4" board. On the shorter side walls, you could add a floor to ceiling row or two of shoe shelves beside the corner cabinet and then either a single high rod or double rods between those shelves and the wall to the bedroom. However. If your closet door is in the 6' end, you're likely going to find out very quickly that you can only hang clothes on one side of that and accommodate only 1' deep shelving on the other side and walking sideways between the shelving and hanging rods is awkward … and you're going to need a really good closet light because the light from the bedroom will not be enough. If you only have a few dresses requiring a single high hung rod, you might consider investing in a wardrobe so you can make all your walk-in closet rods double rods.

chicagoans I have pointed this out to him previously. I told him to allow about 24 inches for clothing depth. Thank you for that image. I'm going to show that to him and then he can decide what he wants to do. More likely his wife will decide what to do. We built a new home a little over a year ago and our plans showed our master closet the same way with the rails. I wasn't concerned because I knew what to expect and how much space was really useable. I also knew clothing didn't turn corners in most cases. I do think that closets aren't always represented with how they will work in real life.

Some thoughts: A hot water recirculating pump is the next best thing to an electric water heater right at the faucet. I have hot water in my shower and everywhere in 6 seconds. Small expense. Saves water. Instant gratification many times a day. A shower only *needs* to be big enough for an adult to face the spray and rotate with his elbows out. People of any age benefit from a hand-hold at the spray and at the door. Shower seats are dangerous and awkward to clean. Our hand-held spray is adjustable on a vertical bar -- no additional, stationary spray. A swinging shower door is easy to wash; must be far enough from the spray not to require a side seal. Our MBA would be drafty without it's own door. Spend for a *powerful* exhaust fan. I'm glad we installed floor heat under the bathroom tile. We have two large pedestal sinks with 'laying space' on them. Two mirrored-in-and-out 'medicine' cabinets are sunk 5" into the walls above the sinks -- doors close flush with the walls. A full closet holds towels, toilet paper, bottles, soaps, cleaning supplies. There's no stooping to root through lower cabinets, and the room looks larger. I find pocket doors cumbersome for daily use. They have a less secure 'seal', and the sliding motion is unnatural for me. We have only two, on our his/hers walk-in closets, and only close them for 'company'.

Visualize opening the doors to the Master Suire and before you is a amazing focal wall, with organized storage done in a decorative manner, and the bed centered with calm bedding. Cool lighting on each side with individual switches for each side of bed for reading lights. A great decorative "fandelier" over the end of the bed for air circulation and attractive decorative touch. A peek side view of a great large piece of art with water influences and soft, calm colors. A contrasting bed skirt across the foot of the bed for extra foot warmth when needed or just an accent that can be draped over the bench at bedtime. Endless configurations for the "storage wall system" that meets your every need. Additional lighting could be incorporated in it too for soft night time ambience or daytime cleaning. No recessed lighting as it is harsh and not soothing. The storage "feature" wall could be done in wood or painted materials, just depends on the budget. Can you "see" it! Awesome and functional!
