Hope this link works. Ours is 6 x 8 and the chimney flue takes 2 feel along one side. We've functioned with this space for 20 years - did the build-out shortly after buying the house.

Which side is the door on?

Where I live, that’s HUGE.

My closet is almost the large and I had it designed, for free, by ELFA, which is sold at Bed Bath and Beyond and goes on sale in December/January. You bring a drawing, including heights, detailed lists of what you have to store (ask them), and they do drawings and, if you go ahead, detailed lists of what to buy. I have ELFA in all my closets and love it. Not cheap, but very durable and much better priced than things like California Closets. You’ll optimize every inch of space.

If the door to your closet can be centered in the 8' wall, you'll find reaching everything easier.

You could build a couple of corner cabinets (for your accessories -- hats, purses, etc.) with 16" deep side walls (two 8" vertical boards on each side w/thick plywood triangle shaped horizontal shelves between them).

You'd attach the fixtures (stainless steel is much stronger than the plastic ones) that would hold your rods to the sides of the vertical boards. At least on the wider wall, use two rods, one hung high enough so that shirts can be hung on it and not touch the floor. The higher rod should be above the lower rod the same distance as from the floor to the lower rod. You may need to support the longer rods in the middle with a hold drilled through a vertical 2"x4" board.

On the shorter side walls, you could add a floor to ceiling row or two of shoe shelves beside the corner cabinet and then either a single high rod or double rods between those shelves and the wall to the bedroom.

However.

If your closet door is in the 6' end, you're likely going to find out very quickly that you can only hang clothes on one side of that and accommodate only 1' deep shelving on the other side and walking sideways between the shelving and hanging rods is awkward … and you're going to need a really good closet light because the light from the bedroom will not be enough.

If you only have a few dresses requiring a single high hung rod, you might consider investing in a wardrobe so you can make all your walk-in closet rods double rods.

You can buy a bunch of expensive stuff to create your closet or, for less expense, create your own.

Your wall can be the back of your hanging space and or shelf in a walk in closet.

You can nail a pair of 8" boards to the side walls and attach the metal thingy that will hold your rods directly to that.

You can get a plain heavy duty pipe from a local plumbing supply store that will hold more weight than any wood rod.

If your the pipe/rod wants to sag under the weight of your clothes, you can add a single vertical board w/rod holes -- or narrow floor to ceiling shelves w/side boards for more metal rod thingys -- to support longer rods.

You do, however, need to make sure your rods are hung far enough away from the wall to not wrinkle your clothes. ( Hopefully you have a separate coat closet.?) Aside from heavy winter coats, locate the item you will need to be hanging with the widest shoulders -- the widest clothes hangers you use -- and measure from shoulder to shoulder -- then add an inch: that is how far from the wall your clothes rod actually needs to be.

You'll need these for holding your clothes rods -- choose sturdy metal ones, preferably stainless steel: (Note: rod "thingy" = "flange".)
