Need help figuring out mirror and sconces over vanity

Hi, I just purchased a 60” double vanity for my kids bathroom. I love the look of each sink having its own rectangle mirror over it with 3 sconces (sides and middle). Side sconces are also better for lighting without shadows on the face. I’m just concerned that a 60” vanity is not wide enough to have two mirrors. The vanity will be against the wall on one side and the other side will be the toilet. Should I stick with one large mirror and sconces above the mirror? Can I make the two mirrors work? I’ll attach a picture of the vanity and the two ideas. Thanks for the feedback!

Hmm for a kids bath i might be tempted to do one mirror to open up more space for hair brushing, teeth etc - (I feel like my kids were always squashed around the vanity getting ready for school or bed) - how many kids will share this bath, is it just 2?

I'd go with 2 mirrors and 3 sconces, find something that fits your space.

sconces centered 60" off the floor.

Sconce lighting is IDEAL as long as it is at face level. You want the light to reflect evenly on your face if at all possible. So, lights on either side of the mirror, or, mounted directly over the mirror are ideal as long as they are at eye level. Bathroom bar lighting is unflattering and doesn't provide an accurate lighting for your face. Hope that makes sense. I'm not in anyway promoting RH sconces, this is just meant to give you an idea of the ideal type of sconce for the bathroom. You can also check out the National Kitchen and Bath association recommendations for lighting in a bathroom. A web search of "National Kitchen and Bath Association" will bring up their site. I think you'll want to buy two mirrors and three sconces. The balance will work out much better being able to have one above each sink. Furthermore, I would propose getting three lights as that will probably help with ensuring you have more evenly spread lighting to work with in the mirrors. I realize this bathroom vanity is longer but it does have the two mirrors and three lights. Definitely our preference when building.

If you do 4 sconces, 2 for each mirror, it will make each mirror seem its own entity, IMHO. If you do a double sconce in the middle, it seems like.....an after thought? And the sconces will not be equidistant from each other and the mirror. My OCD kicking in, I suppose. If the space between is larger than the mirrors, I think you should go with 2 separate sconces. If the space is smaller than the mirrors, I think you could go with a double light. Just make sure the spaces are fairly equidistant.

My 4 - what did you choose? Would you share your photos? I did draw it out - but not to scale and for different sconces. I've looked at mirror and light combinations until I almost don't care anymore :-D. If you notice the The magazine photo the mirrors aren't centered over the sinks - difficult to see in my photo. Now I'm wondering about sinks - oval or rectangular, aggh!!! Ceiling height is 9' rather than 8' as shown in the drawing. So, that would leave about 20" above the mirrors to the ceiling. I think my calculations were incorrect - I was goofy at this point.

If one side of the vanity is against the wall, you really won’t have the room for three sconces as the wall side would require a very thin mirror. I would do a large mirror with lighting above each sink, or two mirrors with a sconce between and two lights above each mirror.

If you can find mirrors that are 18-20" wide you have just enough room if you use skinny light fixtures (maybe). It depends on whether the vanity is up against a wall on one or both sides, and how the sinks are placed in the vanity. Measure carefully before installing the junction boxes.

I too have a 66 ( not 60) inch doubke vanity . im doung 2 recessed medicine cabinets and 3 sconces . i chose 2 undermound sinks with widths of 15 inchrs . kohler has a few stylrs of recessed medicine cabinets with widths of 15-20 inches wide , which is what i will go with to use 3 sconces.

i have 2 teen daughters and a designated mirror and storage for each will help solve the bathroom banter of fighting over one sink, one mirror etc

When I'm confronted with a situation like this, I find it's important to draw out the space to scale. It all depends on the size (width and height) of the space, the mirrors and the sconces. Without that information it's difficult to give you an answer.

Thanks everyone. I decided to go with 2 mirrors 24x36 with lighting above each. It’s not perfect but I think it’s the best I can do with the space.
