Use of bathroom facilities by workers in your home
Comments (64)Tell you what, TYW, before making assumptions about people making assumptions rather than having real experiences, read up on some of the toilet threads. You will really see what over the top is - how people's homes have been treated by workers. From using unfinished closets as a urinal to bathtubs and disconnected toilets as waste receptacles, BM's buried in the attic insulation, to using yards and entrances and a pile of basement rags. Even when facilities are available. Regardless, there is no justifiable excuse, make them and blame the customers as y'all will. There is a whole lot more going on there than the people in the biz here who post on it are willing to acknowledge. Peeing on the toilet and floor is also totally unacceptable, no matter who or where it is. Like it or not, it happens. Get after your fellow peers. They bring this all on themselves, whether people here are able to accept it or not. What is so hard to understand about that is beyond me, but y'all sure turn a deaf ear and try to gloss over it all in your favor. Don't tell us how we are not to feel or react to such things or to not protect our property from such abuse. And do note I said SOME workers, not all. What a lame knee jerk reaction, with no substance. Ridiculous. Once you have had the joy of workmen peeing on your home or in the yard and garden where you place your bare hands (not to mention helping themselves to your personal property, or other obnoxious things), you are not going to be the same after having your trust and confidence and home violated like that. It is just a simple fact of life and human nature....See MoreBucking current bathroom mirror trend- but how?
Comments (17)threeapples, I purchased nickel framed mirrors for the walls, but shipped them back. I love the look, but it just wasn't right for this space. It felt choppy. My biggest concern is it will look unfinished if I don't frame the large mirrors. I have to figure this out by the end of the week so I am starting to feel the pressure! For the hall bath I had a large three panel frame made to fit the space and that was much easier decision as the walls define the space much better than the master. ( credit due to tinker2006 and pipdog for inspiration!) Here is the before pic. Install is scheduled for Friday. Fingers are crossed, nothing seems to go as planned! (as you know- and take heart- this little ceramic bathroom (hex and subways) has had problem after problem...uneven floor, spotty grout, tile guy scratched outside of new tub, electrician put ladder in tub to install light and scratched floor of tub, it goes on and on- but I love the simplicity of that room and would not change a thing. I will just have to stick to my guns until they make everything right. You do the same!...See MoreWhy are small bathroom mirrors are 'better' than a large one?
Comments (41)Lots of replies! In our master bath we have a rectangular mirror with a pretty frame. Then because the space is only about 4 ft. wide with a wall on both sides, I had the workers put an inset medicine cabinet on each side. When I want to see the sides or back of my hair I just open the appropriate side mirror. And we each have our own medicine cabinet! Works for me. Plus it reflects lots of light from the sconces on each side of the framed mirror. I also had them tile up that area under the framed mirror about a foot high. Keeps lots of water splashes off the mirror. Looks nicer too because the tile has a beautiful 3 inch high band of "deco" tile that continues around the 3 sides of the area. There is just one sink in the counter area because my husband and I are hardly ever needing the sink at the same time. We separated the toilet, tub, shower part of the bath from the sink with a pocket door so that while one is in there, the other can be using the sink without a steamed up mirror and all. It works great. I had seen this set-up in some motels and liked it a lot. Makes the bathroom do double duty!...See MoreBetter to cut down bathroom mirror or buy new ones?
Comments (8)We had the same size mirror in both our bathrooms. We (DH & I) remodeled the guest bath ourselves, and were terrified of dealing with the mirror! We got it off the wall in one piece and called several recycling and glass companies trying to get rid of it, and no one would deal with that large a piece of glass. So we bought a glass scoring tool with the intention of cutting it into smaller pieces for recycling. We were totally unable to score or cut the glass! We ended up putting it between layers of plastic drop cloths and hitting it with hammers to break it, and even then it was extremely hard to break. We asked our GC to do the same thing you are proposing in the master bath. They successfully removed the mirror and his glass and cabinet guys magically made it turn into two beautifully framed mirrors. I guess my point is that you may need professional, industrial-grade tools to cut the mirror. And if you decide to get rid of it I hope you have better luck finding someone who will haul it away.
