Windows Design Dilemma living room

Help with curtains and arched windows

Dear Houzz experts! We're getting new (neutral coloured curtains installed). Lady recommended bringing them up to hang 3 inches off the ceiling and widening the poles a foot on each side. They hang just below the arch originally. I've done a quick mock ( row 2 and 3 ) - and I'm just not sure with all the exposed space around arch and the little window. Help!

You can pick whatever fabric you want! This link should show you how I would put the shades on. If not, just look at my ideabooks and I created a sketch under your username. Hey There: When it comes to eyebrow shape windows you can do bottom up top down operating blinds. The blinds will go up where the arch starts (the arch itself will not be covered) but in your situation there is no problem with light and privacy. The beauty is that you can raise the blinds from the bottom and still be able to enjoy the view...all blinds will be inside mount installation...

Hi fifamom, thank you -- I will hang a rod straight across above the window, about how Barbara has suggested, except closer to the ceiling than halfway above high point of the arch. The room is probably not as formal as the window seems to call for, The window itself is great. That room is the primary front living/family room, feels less formal because that is a massive lounging sectional where I read, work -- wouldn't have planned that sofa for this space. Spent a fortune on this comfy sofa and brought it from another space where it fit perfectly. The rug doesn't have to stay. It's relatively new but cheap and can probably move to a bedroom if I find one I love:) Actually prefer geometrics to florals in rugs.

"I love natural light and if I could I would have no window treatments but I have no choice." Well........ you do. Get with a Hunter Douglas source in your area, and request a house visit.. Options abound, that will literally disappear when not needed. Yes, even for the transom. NO....NO...... to curtain panels. Not enough room! I see no reason to add a window treatment to the entry door at all. Perhaps a film on the glass, or change to a seeded less open glass. I see no reason for grilles on the window but you aren't showing exterior. There are no grilles on the back.
