I'm assuming your realize that if your pleating construction doesn't align with the pattern on the fabric the pleated pattern will be all wonky and be sporadic all over the panels??? In spite of your sofa color, I would not use that fabric. Too 70's in inspiration.

I would absolutely not use that material to make curtains for that window. That material does not match that window in any way, not in style and not in color. But in terms of where to hang drapery panels .... when you have irregular window shapes, you need to hang the drapes as if the window is not irregular. So you still hang the rod along the top of the ceiling, all the way across the wall, and have enough material to be able to pull them closed to meet in the middle. This will also ensure that your panels are "thick" enough, substantial enough, on each side of the window when they are open. Keep the panels in a light color that coordinates with the wall paint color. That will make the space look bigger and more luxurious then if you do a dark color that breaks up the wall into chunks when on the open position.

Kind of you all to weigh in. I get the concern about the pattern on the curtain. Tough to see from my pic, but the room feels large to me -- roughly 13 X 17 or 18.'

Still furnishing though will likely always have that persimmon color whether dominant or an accent in there. Fair amount of color in the house. Smith and Noble single pleat.

Anne, why not do a solid color with a great trim on the inside lead of each panel? As far as position I would place the pole as close to the ceiling as possible. Take advantage of the height.

Unless Stormy Daniels is a regular visitor or that cylindrical thing on the coffee table is a bong, leave the window uncovered and enjoy the view. That road outside the window doesn't appear to be I-95; not many people are going to look in and see that you still have a subscription to Sunset magazine.

I understand what you're getting at cpaul1 and appreciate your taking the time to engage. Please also consider ensuring your feedback is actionable and constructive when commenting. The house itself was built in 1936 and has that charm. Just about everything in the house is in process :) If I knew everything about design, I wouldn't be asking for advice from well-meaning strangers.

@Lawrence Sprowls -- you've revealed my deep dark Sunset secret!! It's been uncovered for a while. I love it during the day, but I live near a public park and at night I retreat to the back of the house to avoid feeling like I'm on stage.

Hi fifamom, thank you -- I will hang a rod straight across above the window, about how Barbara has suggested, except closer to the ceiling than halfway above high point of the arch.

The room is probably not as formal as the window seems to call for, The window itself is great. That room is the primary front living/family room, feels less formal because that is a massive lounging sectional where I read, work -- wouldn't have planned that sofa for this space. Spent a fortune on this comfy sofa and brought it from another space where it fit perfectly. The rug doesn't have to stay. It's relatively new but cheap and can probably move to a bedroom if I find one I love:) Actually prefer geometrics to florals in rugs.

Beautiful room - beautiful window - beautiful view! If you like the fabric - go for it. My recommendation is to find a local drapery workroom in your area. You're going to want good hardware (not adjustable rods, etc.) with a center support. Think about opening and closing every day - do you want rod/rings or an estate/traverse rod. My preference would be a straight rod mounted as high as possible, considering the width of your drapes. If some of the curtain falls into the window, you can always use a holdback. Also, when using a geometric pattern (whether it's stripes, circles, etc), it does look better to pleat to pattern - if it can be done.
