can you help me lighten up this bedroom

last year

I have been have difficulty trying to help my mom choose a coverlet and a picture for this bedroom. The walls are taupe and the wall behind the headboard is a dark taupe, and the furniture will remain. The floors are a grey and beige plank flooring, Pic included. There is also a coverlet still packaged in the first picture abd am wondering about it and say a round mirror above the headboard. an ivory c including some pics we've been looking at and would love your professional thoughts.

I think painting the walls to white or a light color will do wonders to lighten the entire room.

I agree but she won't go for it. So I'm having to work with the taupe walls. I'm her daughter and she has asked me to do this for her but in the end she makes the final decision.

On one side, you could have one of these cheap-o round tables, which you then have a table cloth made for out of your choice of fabric. Put a glass top on itÃ¢ÂÂ¦voila. This option would also help in limiting the different woods and wood tones in the room, as well as giving the room another way of adding color or other design.

I like my first idea best as far as use of space. I know people say not to put toilets on an outside wall. We had one in our last house in Iowa, but we had 2X6 construction. I don't know how high your window is, but I'm guessing the toilet would fit under there. The shower would be 5 feet long or shorter if you want a wider space to get to the toilet. (kind of tight the way I have drawn). You could do a 5 and half foot long shower and do an angled door at the left end to allow room between the shower and toilet. The vanity would be about 7 feet long, unless you do a 60 inch vanity with a linen cabinet at the door. I would reverse entry door swing if you do that.. The second top right could work and you would still have a small closet. The bottom left plan would require waterproofing your front window. Hopefully someone will give you other ideas. The bottom right plan is bigger, but no closet. Each square equals 1 foot.

I'm not a fan of any of those options...for various reasons. Mostly because the style/scale as well as the tone doesn't look like it would compliment the bed.....although without links hard to know. The Bernhardt nightstands in your pic from Haverty's are 40 W x30 H x21 D. That is why they don't look dwarfed by the bed. Do you have room to do something like the pic Penny posted? Basically a simple open rectangle with a sturdy leg? Another thing I'd consider is taking a look at kids' dressers/desks. I do think you have too much that matches. For art, I'd get what you love and not worry about whether it's the same size or "coordinates" or anything else. You might do a small gallery wall on one side (including one or two 3-dimensional pieces), and a large image (canvas or framed) on the other. But whatever you decide, don't go out and look for "art." Look for what you love; maybe you already have it! I'd replace at least one of the lamps with something different since the nightstands appear to be the same. (Again, something you love.) If it's you and your partner you can each decorate or keep on your nightstand what works for you be it a plant, pictures, water pitcher, books, reading glasses, etc. These should be your individual islands that work for you and less a "decorating surface." If the colors work for you, great! But I find them dull and uninteresting. (That said, I despise browns and beiges and grays so take my advice for what it is worth.) What colors turn you on? Use some of them in wallpaper, paint, curtains, pillows, comforter.

Light bedding and better lamps is key. How about mirrors behind night stand lamps. Then a set of three pictures above headboard. Pale blues or sage greens would be calming and restful. Bbl

She is doing it backwards. Paint is always last. Lighting lightens rooms, not art. More lights, less dark colors.

I could see a blue and soft tan and white color palette. Interesting mirror behind lamps. Or a sage green and lavender/purple palette. Print bedding.

I prefer a blue and tan and white palette especially with the wall color. Mirrors and brighter lights will enhance the room.

Yes there is another post with this included in it but I couldn't get any pro's to go on it and give there advice. So I re-posted just the bedroom dilemma this way and got Flo's advice. Which I'm very glad for. I couldn't figure out any other way.
