Please help me decorate my sideboard!
Comments (24)THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS! And especially thank you for the kind words about my house....besides the fact that I am struggling with the details, our house truly has become our "home"..we are surrounded by amazing neighbors who are now true friends and are so blessed to live in a gorgeous area. I am going to peruse some stores today to try to find somthing long and low to center on the sideboard as that seems to be the majority vote! I find I really do struggle with thinking that I've just got random accessories scattered about my home with no real groupings or flow. I think part of my problem is also that I don't quite know what my "style" is. I've always just said comfortable french with some modern accents thrown in - like brown leather slipper chairs in my library, maybe sortof pottery barnish - I don't know. I definitely love my black accents and start to worry that I've overdone them.......If I only had a decorating identity - lol. As for the sideboard - It was made by Collezione Europa and bought from a local store here - not expensive by any means! Unfortunately I did buy it about 4 years ago so I'm not sure they would still make it....I also have a little black table with gold nail heads from the same company in my living room..they have some beautiful, inexpensive pieces. And the sectional was from Bassett. We looked long and hard to find a sectional that fit...my favorite one was at Thomasville but was just massive and wouldn't work...my family room is long and thin and we needed to find small....and affordable! The quality seems ok so far...it definitely gets its share of abuse with two kids and two dogs! As for the suggestion of moving the sideboard, I wish I could show it off in a better area but the layout of my house seems to have left out one major thing....wallspace! We've really struggled with that....it is all windows. As for the French-Asian suggestion...this really intriques me - since I have no idea what french-asian is...but the colors you listed are my favorite colors...I've been wanting to add some blue to my sea of red, gold, green, brown and black for a long time but don't know how. Can you post a picture of what something french-asian would be? Thanks again so very much......Hopefully this can be checked off my list and I can move onto my living room which is number two and of course involves tablescaping again...my weakness!...See MoreAppropriate sink size?
Comments (11)Be aware that if you notch/scribe a cabinet to make a sink fit, you will probably void the warranty on that cabinet. So, stick with sink that has a width no wider than the width of your cabinet minus the thickness of two side walls plus 1" or so for wiggle room - this lets the sink fit inside the cabinet and (1) there's no need to notch/scribe and (2) the sink will be installed such that if it fails later, it can be replaced (that doesn't happen often, but still...) So... If your cabinets have 1/2" side walls, than the sink should be no wider than 34": 1/2" thick wall + 34" wide sink + 1/2" thick wall + 1" wiggle room = 36" If your cabinets have 3/4" side walls, than the sink should be no wider than 33.5": 3/4" thick wall + 33.5" wide sink + 3/4" thick wall + 1" wiggle room = 36" 33" will definitely fit - as will 32". I would look for one that's at least 33" wide, if I were you. If the sink you want is only 28" wide, then I would downsize the sink cabinet to a 31" or 33" sink base. Sink bases generally have the least useful storage - so I'd add those 3" to the another cabinet to gain more useful storage!...See MoreNeed help with sideboard color!
Comments (9)Thank you!! I really like the first skinny blue one!! Maybe my instincts for a blue sideboard were good after all :) @Beverly any chance you can share the source for these pieces?...See Moreplease help me decide on appropriate size
Comments (10)No to artificial plants in the corner. Dust and insect collectors. The cats may bother them, too. Some cats will mark them. Place two of your chairs on each side of the curio cabinet and find some art work or sconces to frame the sides of the cabinet. Unless you are using the table, too many chairs will make it look crowded. Your curio cabinet is too small for the space, so putting the chairs on each side would help fill up the void. Move the lanterns to each side of the window. They would look better if you acquired a small stand to elevate them off the floor. Or, find another place for them in the house. Your flower arrangement is lovely. But, it is too tall for a dining table. You already have two tall lights on the buffet. Adding the floral arrangements would not work because they are tall, too. What you have on the buffet looks very nice. For additional lighting, you could add a small up light fixture that can't be seen on the curio cabinet. You can add a timer to it....See Moreeverdebz
