Paint Exterior Design Dilemma

EXTERIOR PAINT AND TRIM COLOR NEEDED to coordinate with orange brick

We are having some repairs done to the exterior of our home resulting in apparently the need to paint the whole thing.
I would love to make charcoal gray work...however not sure it will. I really don't care for the current color at all and the fact that it's all monochromatic.

Painting all.of it...trim, garage, fiberboard etc.

Roof is brownish

Would LOVE some help.

I agree with Amanda Healey regarding a warm shade. You also need to keep both the brick and roof color in mind. A gray/green would be one nice option.

I think as long as you keep the darker grey colour a warm dark grey, you could make it work. A cook charcoal grey would look too out of place with all of the warm colours. Keep in mind if you go darker than the trim colour now, the trim is going to have a lot more contrast and pop out from the red brick. Which is fine if that's the look you want. It's just something to be aware of it you update it from the medium tone it is now.

@amanda Is the color it is now considered a gray? It just looks brown to me? LOL. We walked around the neighborhood to look at other homes and colors and you are correct in how the trim would pop...and I don't think in a good way..it just looked weird on the homes that had different trim and fiberboard colors.

I had an orangey-peachy house in Baton Rouge, LA and I painted the back porch and door an opposite color on the color wheel - a beachy-seafoamy-light turquoise green. I loved it, but colorful houses are "done" there and this was 20 years ago. If any of your darker bricks go toward the red/maroon spectrum, a cranberry or maroon color could work well for a front door. You might have to make your pictures "public" in order for us to see them.

i have a bunch of pics here, so use your imagination and try to vision what I think would look good on your place. Love you metal roof idea. I think you should update the home (the 60's were good, but it's time for a facelift) to more of a mid century modern vibe. there are a few ways. First, Paint. yes, paint the brick (With Romabio of course. it's meant for masonry and has almost zero upkeep. look it up. Not the lime wash one, the masonry paint. you can have it tinted to any color so, imagine if the siding was done in a dark charcoal, and the brick below painted a soft white or gray? Or you could reverse the colors another poster on here painted their brick and was looking for another color option for the siding. I'd do your window trim in a dark color. here's a before/after from another poster on here. looks good eh? painted brick, white siding, dark window trim, AND she added the wood slat on the porch area. Wood is necessary! so the other option, composite wood siding (Hardie) on the 2nd story, just like this. paint the brick oh, and more modern garage doors. that's a must I love this one. similar style home to yours. you could paint the brick white, do the composite wood siding, trim out the windows, new garage door, front door. The windows are not right for the shutters. I would remove them. Paint the trim a light tan. It really looks good with the color of your brick.

Thanks, everyone. Still giving it some thought. Nice to know it’s not terrible in its existing color. If I kept it one color it would still change slightly because the paint color now doesn’t quite match the Andersen sandtone of the patio doors and windows. The sandtone is a little more grey, which I am good with. You can see the difference on the back of the house with the patio doors and paint. The trim could use some caulking and painting, especially and obviously where we replaced the wood. The siding is cement fiberboard and probably does not “need” a new coat of paint so maybe we can get away with painting the trim and doors.

It's hard to tell from the photo what colour is really is. Colour is rarely viewed in isolation either - the colours around a particular shade will always influence what it looks like.

Chloebud is on the right track that is always one of my faves to go with brick and please do not ever consider painting the brick unless of course you want to instantly devalue the house .

@amanda, what I don't like about the color now is that it is brown...I dislike all shades of brown.

@chloebud yes, I am looking for options that go with our roof/brick and windows which is called "santone" from Andersen. ..it's like a beige colour. The gray/green is an interesting option for sure.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting oh yes of course, not considering painting brick at all...when I said we are painting it all, I just meant the already currently painted areas. Are there any warm grays

that would go with the brick/roof etc?

There lots of choices for warm grays. We just used SW Repose Gray on our exterior that works nicely with our brick and roof. It’s a warm gray but much too light for the charcoal you mentioned but you should look at some warm grays.

Maybe something similar to this siding color could work. I love the door color, too.
