I would be terrified to have water pooling next to my house ! I'm sure you will find water in your crawlspace as well. Sorry to say your patio may have to be redone. Someone who knows more than I will have to help you with what to do.

I'd work on a plan to remediate with a drainage channel. What is on the other side of the fence? Who installed the pavers?

Send these pics to the contractor. This can be remedied.

The installers are a family owned masonry company I found on Angi’s list, to me it looks like the patio was not slopped correctly, I’m not a mason of course but a google search tells me it should slope 1 inch per every 8 feet away from the house and it doesn’t look like he did that. He also did not put gravel under the pavers, just cleared the ground, dug and put in sand to level it, doing research now it seems like there should be gravel under it, I asked about this after the fact and he said it doesn’t need gravel. Would a drainage channel be able to be installed without taking up the entire patio?

Your patio area may have to be graded first, to provide for a slightly higher area that starts at the house, and then slopes down away from your home. We have a large paved area behind our home, and our experienced landscaper, first graded the area to provide for water drainage away from the house. Of course that is an extra cost. Our landscaper, Art Pierson of NJ , has lots of excavating equipment. We do not have water pooling near our home. Art also installed a lovely paved walkway in the front of our home.

Good then you can probably build a drainage system that empties into that area. Agree it was not properly installed, should have done the grading and drainage first. Hopefully removing pavers along the house and putting a drain will be enough. I don't think I'd trust the mason with that project.

they failed to grade correctly. It was poorly done.

I'd call them back out and have them fix it. (and it's going to have be taken up and redone, regardless. no way to fix that slope without removing those

(or, I suppose you could put in a french drain near the foundation. But why should you do that when the patio is supposed to be graded away from the house?? doesn't seem right)

BTW, were theses pavers set solely on the dirt/sand? (also the cheap way) They should have poured concrete first, and then laid the pavers. within a few years those pavers are going to shift/sag and move. Ask me how I know.

Be sure to leave a review on "Angi" that this mason (who in my area would be the wrong contractor to begin with) does not know how to properly install an interlocking paver system, let alone a patio. Don't want another person to waste their money on an entire redo.

It’s a bad grading issue. This is a job for professional landscapers who have hard scaling in their service menu. Also, to me, anything on Angi is a hard pass. There’s no quality vetting at all.

I am learning that about Angis list the hard way, I’m waiting on a response from the company now.
