Comments (4)Juliany Is the area you wish to visualize a regular or irregular polygon shape? Have you considered SketchAndCalc.com? It's a pretty helpful tool that calculates the area of any irregular shape you draw. It has an image / map tracing function too, so if your patio can be seen from Google Maps you could trace it in SketchAndCalc to arrive at the area and perimeter. Maybe try this: 1. Make a sample configuration of stones on the floor. 2. Take an overhead photo of the pattern. 3. Import the photo into a graphics package to scale and position, or simply print out many copies and position on the floor to get feel for the best configuration. Comments (2)Actually, you may be better off not trying to save the outermost row or two of stones, and plan to carefully remove them exposing the bedding upon which they were installed. That way you can be sure that the integrity of the base and bedding material won't be compromised as it will support no load, and it will be exposed so you can grade and compact the new base and bedding material to match it. After that, when the new base matches the old, you can start laying in the old stones and the new. As to the question of fading and color, if I were you I'd purchase a few of the new stones first and lay them out on the existing to see just how much, if any, fading has occured, and how bad it may be. It may not be all that bad, and you may find it acceptable. Worst case is you have to pick up a few more rows of the existing stones, carefully, and start 'blending' the new and old together so any color differences have less of an impact....See Moreinstalling paver patio adjacent to concrete driveway
Comments (3)we had sort of the same type issue. We have a wooden deck on one side of the house, then this horrible dirt strip that wrapped around a patio and sidewalk to the front of the house. So we had to tie into an old concrete patio poured first, a newer brushed sidewalk poured some time later, and a wooden deck. We solved the thing by having new concrete poured over the entire dirt area. Then, a concrete restoration company came and stained all ages of concrete one color, taped it into random stones (you could do bricks or anything), stained it in about 4 colors, pulled up the tape and sealed the entire thing. It looks amazing, and was under $6000 in Southern California. This was about 700 sq. ft. You have a much smaller area, I think. I like the seating wall idea also!...See MoreMixing Travertine and concrete pavers
Comments (10)You've tried to explain with words your proposal for blending the two materials. In a hardscape plan, details matter, and it's impossible to know that we're envisioning with any precision or accuracy. Show your ideas in plan form. All that's needed is a simple line sketch. Also, the picture you're showing is severely limited, showing no surroundings. Stand with the camera in line with the center of what would be the most important viewpoint. Take 3 slightly overlapping pictures (aiming left, center & right) so we can see the pool & deck in their surroundings. Be sure NOT to change the camera location between shots. Merely pivot....See Moreoliveolivehouse
