help with powder room tiles and wallpaper

Hi Houzz community

I always appreciate the ideas from this group.
We want to update the look of our powder room to make more of a statement, more modern and practical. Existing paint keeps peeling off with water exposure near the sink.

My idea is to put large white marble tiles at the bottom half til 3-5 inches above the sink, and use nice blue wallpaper for top half.

Only issue is the room is small and already have some patterns from window shade and floor rug, both are relatively new. I need help with picking a wallpaper that complement the existing room without being too busy.

Love the roman shade. We can't see the sink so not sure what you mean. If paint is peeling due to water tiles may not stick either.

Why not just have the same blue paint you have now on the top half of the walls? Your picture doesn't show the sink so I don't know how big it is. Maybe it would be cheaper to just replace the sink with a small vanity with a marble top and backsplash? You're going to have to remove the sink and toilet to tile that wall.

Cindy - thanks for the info, the back of the paper does state it's washable, so hopefully they mean it! Shermann and Andrea - I have my challenges with little boys but this is our powder room, most of their cleanup happens between the basement bathroom or their upstairs bathroom. i can see the light switch being an issue, the paper states it's washable, so hopefully that will help. Treasure - you did not post your room in my other post so now worry. It's gorgeous, I was leaning towards #2 until I saw your room. Wow! thanks nutmegxo and caminnc- The wallpaper looks much more blue on the screen than in real life. In person, it's almost a blue/gray or even a hint of green to it. My house is pretty much a blank slate right now. We painted the foyer and the family room when we first moved in almost 4 years ago. I'm not a fan of the paint colors and will repaint. This mirror is right off the powder room and I love it. Since they are so close in proximity, do they work together ok?

Not everyone can afford "mistakes"! You can only have so many stars in a room, or all will beg for attention . If you love your flooring, faucet , mirror and light!? Paint the walls a glossy deep gray! Go buy some oversized / peony art for the wall! There are MANY ways to make a beautiful powder room, and infinite ways to combine too many elements taken out of their context....... And cry real $$$$.

Lovely tiles! I like that they cover the back wall. The sink looks great too! Here are some guidelines to think about for a wallpaper: Your tiles are a small scale. So pick a wallpaper that has a medium or large pattern to contrast with the tiles. I would stay away from geometrics, again for contrast. Something with a flowing, natural feel would work well - think florals, branches, or grasses. If your bathroom is headed in a more modern direction, something with abstract swirls possibly. In order to let the tiles stand out, use a wallpaper that’s tonal - as in subtle color variation and very low contrast. You have a lot of leeway in what color you select. Personally, I would use something in varying neutral shades, like cream to taupe. But you could us a paper with a subtle pattern in shades of greens, blues, or reds. Maybe dark grays or near black if you want to get dramatic. Hope that helps! Best of luck.

I want to change the look of the powder room to be a bit more modern, refreshed. Tired of the blue paint. I already got the titles for bottom half of this room, so look for wallpaper recommendations here that will go with both the window treatment and the rug. Thank you!

This is the tile for the bottom half of the wall. The large piece measures 12” by 24”, and with a small bullnose piece

A wallpaper to go with your soft accessories (window treatment and rug) and also that marble tile is difficult. Usually wallpapers will be the pattern and the accessories are solid or at least less busy. You could try a simple light blue grasscloth. Do you have any inspiration photos?
