Although they are all very pretty, I wouldn't put wallpaper in a powder room. I have wallpaper in my powder room that is stained from a leak we had upstairs and from little boys not being as tidy as possible and the wallpaper has gotta go. It just doesn't clean up very well. Once the wallpaper comes down Im going to stencil a design instead (I think...still trying to come up with a vision for it).

#2 would be my choice. The blue is yummy - you could put that on the ceiling.

Is the size of the pattern the same for all of them? Scale does matter. What makes a damask enjoyable is the positive/negative space, and the diagonal movement of your eye in the space.

I like #1 the best, but not strongly better than the others.

And I have wallpaper in my powder room and have not had any issues.

If you use a darker color paper, you may want to paint first with a tinted primer. This helps obscure the seams.

We have Wallpaper in out powder room. It's the only room in the whole has that does have wallpaper.

Thanks everyone! They are pretty similar in scale. I've ruled out #3 as I don't think the color of the paper will work with the cabinet. Thanks for the information Andrea on the possible leak, I too have small boys so its something for me to consider. My heart is kind of set on attempting wallpaper as I have fallen in love with how beautiful these papers are! Anyone have any thoughts on whether to do the whole room or possibly half with accent paper/paint?

I am not a fan of the half and half treatment in bathrooms. The fixtures tend to break things up enough, without doing the chair rail thing.

Nor am I a fan of a large pattern in a small room. But that is my personal taste.

I think it is important to use washable/scrubbable paper in bathrooms. Most vinyl papers will be far easier to keep clean than paint. And if you are really concerned, there are Teflon coated papers that are virtually stain proof.

I think number 2 is beautiful. I have large scale wallpaper in our powder room. Love it.

You know, as far as boys are concerned, I am going to be frank here. I am surprised it is a problem. I have a husband and three sons, and before that I had a dad and four younger brothers. It was never an issue, and I have been cleaning bathrooms after boys since I was 11 or 12! I have noticed a drip or two on the floor after we have had company, and, frankly, I am bothered that some men are such piggies! My four-year-old grandsons do not miss.

Honestly, when I was training my little boys I showed them how to aim in the toilet. They are perfectly capable of learning. It never even occured to me that it was an issue until I read about it. It does not have to be an issue. And I would not avoid wallpaper because of little boys. I love wallpaper!

Oh, I didn't mean that the wallpaper is an issue because of the boys missing the toilet. I mean the wallpaper that is near the on off light switch takes a good beating because their hands are not clean when they turn on the light switch and their hands brush up against the wallpaper, and, their hands are somewhat cleaner when they turn off the light switch. Plus my son is in to Halloween make up...big time...make up gets everywhere.

Maybe it's just the wallpaper I chose...I didn't consider whether I needed scrubbable wallpaper at the time because I bought it before I had my son.

I love #2 because I am partial to blues! But mostly because it looks warm. Your tiles look warm and I am picturing in my mind how well #2 will go with the tiling. I think it will look very sophisticated and pretty!

I am undecided as to what kind of opinion to offer about wallpapering the whole wall or just upper half. I definitely am not a fan of putting two different papers (one on top and different on bottom). Floor to ceiling with this damask pattern might look very nice. It is hard to tell by the one picture you have posted. Is it a tiny powder room? If so, I would vote on doing floor to ceiling. If the room is larger, it might look less cluttered to have an off-white on bottom portion of wall and put paper on top (with a chair rail in between).

I love all of your choices, especially #2.

Option #3 is nearly identical to my powder room paper which I am very happy with. I wouldn't hesitate to put a softly softly colored large scale pattern in a powder room because I love that room to feel intimate and elegant rather than spacious.

I love #2, it seems warmer than 1 and with more dimension. There are different kinds of wallpaper. Is this wallpaper suitable for behind a sink? I'm wondering about water getting splashed on the wall. Does it have some coating?

I like #2 if the colors blend with your surrounding rooms. If not I would go with #1. I would put the wallpaper from floor to ceiling. Good luck!

Cindy - thanks for the info, the back of the paper does state it's washable, so hopefully they mean it!

Shermann and Andrea - I have my challenges with little boys but this is our powder room, most of their cleanup happens between the basement bathroom or their upstairs bathroom. i can see the light switch being an issue, the paper states it's washable, so hopefully that will help.

Treasure - you did not post your room in my other post so now worry. It's gorgeous, I was leaning towards #2 until I saw your room. Wow!

thanks nutmegxo and caminnc- The wallpaper looks much more blue on the screen than in real life. In person, it's almost a blue/gray or even a hint of green to it. My house is pretty much a blank slate right now. We painted the foyer and the family room when we first moved in almost 4 years ago. I'm not a fan of the paint colors and will repaint. This mirror is right off the powder room and I love it. Since they are so close in proximity, do they work together ok?

This room is pretty small, so it sounds like full wallpaper would work better. I appreciate everyone's insight!

#2 is gorgeous. We've had wallpaper in the powder room with four kids growing up (two boys) and it's done fine over ten years, except where she-who-shall-be-nameless found a loose edge and peeled it. Patched, no problem.

It does get a bit grubby near the light switch and when they sit on the toilet and put their feet on the wall!!!!! but it wipes perfectly clean with a damp paper towel. It's not vinyl but it might have some coating? It feels like paper - it's Thibaut which is very good quality.

Ours has beadboard halfway up the wall behind sink and toilet in a tiny room 4'11 x 4'4 with a 7' ceiling. A more formal, less country powder room such as yours would need more formal panelling if you went that route.

I like #2 best. I would probably paper all walls and give it a formal look. A small room is a small room and a powder room is the place to do something different.

Treasuretheday's PR is a good example of "intimate and elegant".

I have had my share of wallpaper over the years and never had a problem with cleaning it. Mine was never high end, a mid-price vinyl coated, and never hesitated to wash it down. Heck - I have even sprayed it with and all--purpose cleaner (avoiding the seams of course). All my wallpaper has been removed during the last 5 years, as I prepare my house for retirement, but I still find myself drooling over wallpaper.

I'd assume that if it's washable, it can stand some splashes.

Since the wall paper is washable, I want to go back and cast my vote for wallpaper #2. It's so pretty and fresh with that greeny-blue background!

Thanks for the compliments on my powder room! I still love the paper as much today as five years ago when I chose it. Although afer seeing your selections, I bet I'd have an even harder time choosing today!

Angel, I hope you'll post pics of your room as it comes together. I love all of your wallpaper options and your vanity so I'm sure you'll create a beautiful room.

Re the grubby hands on the wallpapered switch covers... why not have an extra one or two covered while your project is being done? My paper has held up well but it wouldn't hurt to have a clean spare or two just in case.

treasuretheday - that is an absolutely GORGEOUS powder room! Looks like a pic in a magazine!

I wanted to mention about lightswitch covers. In my previous house, we had purchased from Lowe's, clear acrylic lightswitch covers that were meant for wallpaper. They were cheap and easy to use - they snapped apart and you inserted a piece of wallpaper into it and then snapped close. (It came with a template for you to measure out the exact size piece of wallpaper). Once put up on the wall, it blended perfectly with the wall but the paper itself was protected behind the acrylic, so that it did not take abuse when turning on & off the switch.

Nutmegxo... thank you so much! I was in a very baroque stage at that time. Once I found the wallpaper that I loved, I decorated everything around it.

What a great tip about the lightswitch covers. I've clipped your post because later this year I'm going to take the plunge and wallpaper my bedroom too... that is, unless my painter is able to talk me out of it! ;-)
