does agreeable gray go with mahogany?

Looking to change out the paint color in my dining room and living room. I have a mahogany colored furniture in both rooms but looking to get away from the cream color that’s there now. Does sw agreeable gray go with mahogany? Or should I look at something more like a sw nebulous white? The kitchen next-door to the dining room is going to be a pure white/SW aloe color. I’ll post pictures of the kitchen colors and the floor. The same floor will be in the dining room. Last photo is just one I found online with a larger section of the flooring. It has both gray and brown in it.

What is on this wall is SW Agreeable gray left and Grayish on right but it has a purple tone in different light.

These are the kitchen colors next door - Pure white cabinets, Cabria Sandgate (lighter and grayer than photo), Galathea Oak (has more gray in it than the photo shows) and leaning towards the SW Aloe paint

Thanks guys. I got a sample to Taupe of the Morning for Living and Dining and Rainwashed (SW)/Sky Housed(SW Lowes) they look exactly the same for kitchen. Off to paint. :)

Is the trim going to be pure white in both rooms?

SW Aloe paint for the kitchen walls and Agreeable Gray on the Dining Room Walls

I love the countertop and flooring. I think Pure White is a great white for the cabinets with these two. I might go a hair brighter, but this will looks good and it would be hard to go wrong with Pure White.

I like the Agreeable Gray, but feel like Modern Gray may be better, a little warmer.

The Aloe is simply too bright with all of these neutrals. By the time you paint the walls it will be blindingly bright. Colors always look brighter once you have painted a whole wall. The little color swatches look gray or dull but become beautiful on the walls.

We have agreeable grey throughout a new-to-us house. In some lights, it looks beige, sometimes greenish, sometimes greyish...so my suggestion is that you do some large samples at various times of the day to determine if it will work in your room. The outside colors (ex: lots of green trees) definitely makes a difference, too.

Just did Grey in my kitchen and wast have a very simular problem. Grey can change colors on you depending on the lighting and other finishes in the room. The modern Grey is most likely going to look more beige than grey with all the cream and beige you already have in your counters and cabinets. The Agreeable Grey will look more grey (if that is what you are wanting) and I think that the cream and beige in your counters and cabinets will tone down the blue quite a bit. That is the color I like the best from the sample photo you posted. I would get enough paint and try doing an entire wall (so the paint somes up to the cabinet and counter), then look at it in different lighting situations. Daylight and night lighting can really change the look of grey paint. The first grey that I loved looked great in the daylight but was a muddy brown/purplish mess in our night lighting.

Wordly gray and anew gray will make the alabaster molding pop , but anew gray have more contrast. Contrast invites the eye in and is what gives the wow factor. The more contrast the more drama. It gives your room a canvas where the tone is set to decorate and the music begins. Alabaster cabinets are beautiful with contrast when paired with black brushed granites and black matte knobs and handles. Don’t be afraid to contrast your wall color with a deeper chroma. As a designer, I see lots of people going lighter and before you know it the walls are all white. Look at paintings and study the art in museums no one paints an all white painting.

Grey is over. So why attempt to force it to work with your wood?

I would suggest a warm white or one of the ’modern’ beiges, instead.

If you feel like you must resort to greys, look at greiges - such as BM’s Edgecomb Gray.

@freedomplace1 - I think I have read about half of Kylie M Interiors website! I find this so hard. I am moving away from the grays and have Heron Plume added to the wall now. I need to wait until morning to see what it really looks like but at night I can barely see I painted it from the cream that was already on the wall. My only issue is I like bright white trim and not sure how I think that looks with the warmer white colors. In my mind I just wanted something completely different that the cream I've been looking at for the past 24 years but I love my old furniture so it is staying.

The Heron Plume looks good. Here it is with a mix of wood. Also bright white trim and it’s enough of a contrast.

I’m glad you’re moving away from the grey wall paints. You don’t need that kind of “change.” Grey can be beautiful in design - if you want to bring it in, maybe do grey drapes, and/or grey throw pillows, maybe a grey chair - etc. :)

@Jennifer Hogan - you should have seen the green that I started with (SW Refresh). LOL. I had Sea Salt in my hand today at the paint store thinking I would try it but didn't buy a sample. I just really like the Aloe but I do see what your saying.

Have you already installed your floors? The truth is they clash badly with mahogany furniture, if you haven’t put them in yet perhaps look at some other choices. Floors are a big decision and harder to change than paint.

If there will be a rug to separate the mahogany from those very casual looking floors, the rug color selection needs to factor into the selection of your paint color!!!!!

Select the rug to help set the direction of the style.

I understand if you have had the same color for a long time that you want something different.

You love your mahogany furniture. Cream is beautiful with mahogany, but so is taupe (gray beige with purple/pink undertones). It is a completely different look, but both make the mahogany the star.

I showed you several Sherwin Williams colors, but if you want to get away from beige and want something unique and wonderful with your mahogany I would order a sample of C2 Archival. C2 paint is made with better pigments and they use 16 different colors vs the 8 or so used by a BM or SW color mixer. In my opinion they nailed the perfect light taupe in Archival.

Added below between the two greens.

If I didn't have a huge (10') pink brick wall that houses my fireplace and separates my living room and foyer I would have used Archival in my own home, but the pink brick didn't get along with the taupe.

The color I used that looked great with the pink brick wouldn't work with your colors. (BM Frosted Toffee.)

With your furniture and the countertop and flooring that you chose I would go more taupe / warm gray than beige.

I think the suggestion to go taupe is an excellent one. Of the posted sample, SW Taupe of the Morning is particularly harmonious to my eye. The greys just make your mahogany look loud and harsh.

SW Accessible Beige and BM Edgecomb Gray are very close to the same color. They're greige. I have warm colored furniture also and used Edgecomb Gray to bridge the color of the furniture and gray floor tile in the MB. If you like something lighter I used BM Classic Gray in my living room with reddish furniture. You'll figure it out by sampling.

I bought a sample of aloe when I was doing my kitchen a while back. It was not good. Very much like grandmas bathroom tile

I think the question is does the mahogany furniture go with the floor.

IMO, no it does not.

You will need a rug to make it work. Fine the rug first and then choose the paint color.

I agree the floor probably won’t go with the dining furniture. That was an oversight for sure. Right now the dining room is an office but when the time comes that the furniture comes back in there I’ll have to use a rug. The flooring has already been ordered. The real plan was made around the kitchen and running it into the dining room was more of an afterthought because the carpet in there was so bad. I have dark curio cabinets that belong in the dining room currently in the living room but that won’t have the same floor and will remain carpet. So I’m stuck with the floor but working on paint to attempt to tie it together.
