Light fixture where ceiling changes height?

I just bought a house with two small bedrooms where half of the ceiling is vaulted, dividing the room in half. The electric box for a light fixture is at the center of the room, which is also right where the ceiling goes from flat to vaulted. I thought the existing fixture looked terrible but am not quite sure what actually would look good along this "edge" on the ceiling. I thought about track lighting but I don't think it would work well in the small space. Would love to just find the right fixture but would potentially be up for moving the box if it turns out that would work way better.

I can't tell from the angle of your picture, does the electrical box at least line up with the ceiling peak on the vaulted side? If the ceiling is 8' where the box is you will need to stick with a flush or semi-flush fixture (one that doesn't hang down more than 12"), but there are hundreds of options to choose from. I'm sure you can find something you like. I guess I would not pick something that is a "statement" since the window and vaulted ceiling are that. An overhead light fixture isn't used a lot in a bedroom, the bedside table lamps are more important.

I have no idea that picture shows nothing of the space the fixture can easily be replace but thank god the popcorn is gone so post a pic of the space with your furniture layout that is how you get help.

I'm a GW lurker for well over a year now and have learned so much just from reading. We're building a kitchen addition. On one side we have 9' ceilings with all the cabinets, appliances, and island. The other side opens up to 18' ceilings with fireplace and two sets of double french doors. The fireplace is at the far end, and at the opposite end in the kitchen area is a beautiful set of cabinets surrounding my cooktop with a granite backspash to match my countertops (color Tan Brown). We have a number of recessed cans in both areas and will have under-cabinet lighting. I'm challenged with the island light fixture. I don't want to obstruct the view from the fireplace area of the pretty cooktop surround, and vice versa, with a low-hanging set of pendants. They've wired for the island light fixture, which is pretty much centered over the island. I'm worried if I got one of those three-in-a-row pendants that 1) it would hang too low and 2) it would stick out into the part of the room where the ceilings go to 18'. Hopefully these photos will help you picture it better than I'm describing it... advice? Rendering of the wall with the cooktop surround cabinets:

Ok, I think you've been watching WAY too many HGTV shows! LOL Seriously? You don't need to spend your money on something like that when really it makes no difference to a buyer. That lighting is fine and as a Realtor, I can promise you, anyone interested in buying the house will not walk away if they don't care for the lighting. They'll just choose to change it to something THEY prefer after they move in. You'll spend all that time, effort and MONEY for absolutely nothing. Besides, who's to say what the buyers would prefer? Maybe they'll like that lighting just fine. Maybe they'll hate the lighting you choose, ya just never know so better to hold on to your cash and let it be.

The changes can't be specified until you know what is in the switch box. If you are lucky, there is an incoming cable with hot and neutral, and three outgoing cables, each with a hot and neutral. In this case all you have to do is identify the black wire associated with the interior entry light and splice it to the black wire going to the other interior lights. If all of these fixtures are on the same breaker, then there is no need to move any neutral wires. (Neutrals are white, but not all whites are neutral.) If you are not lucky, there may be only two outgoing cables, and the one you are interested in is routed to both the interior entry light and the outside light. That would mean your desired change would require pulling a new cable in the wall. It is also possible that these are on switch loops, meaning the hot goes through the fixtures so there would be only two cables in the switch box. In this case there may be a black and a white on each switch. Such a white should by present good practice be marked black, but older wiring or people who haven't caught up with the practice might not mark them. There are other possible combinations as well. Take a look and then finish planning.

HELP!! Change ceiling height or vault??

Though a lot has to do with personal taste, I'd vote for different ceiling heights to suit the home's design, architecture, roof style and region of contruction. While architecting our home with hip roofs with, we (I) had crazy ideas about superhigh ceilings for our large home, currently under construction, however decided to have a blend of ceiling heights for entryway, bedrooms, living areas and even garages, which made more sense and glad we did. We used a blend of 9, 10, 12 and 16' ceilings with 16' for the two rear garages only. Instead of using ceiling heights which do nothing for the physical space, we opted for very open spaces, very wide hallways and corridors which can be experienced and felt every day.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting and @kandrewspa thanks so much for your replies! I added more recent pics of the space (still a work in progress!) Now there's just duct tape over the box, and yes it's 8' there and it lines up with the peak of the vault. I just thought the fixture looked weird there because it is so close to the "edge" of the ceiling there that it feels imbalanced. A standard round flush light will probably go all the way to the edge or even past ...… which is why i'd love something more long and narrow to kind of follow the edge, but i don't think track lighting would work well. Good poinit about the lamps being more important though!

You're right, that is close to the edge. Their attempt to center it went too far. I would look for a fixture you like and then consider moving the box over six inches (or whatever it takes) to make it work. Or just cover it up.

I would go with a simple square, flush-mounted fixture right now. They are fairly inexpensive. Something non-obtrusive.

Move the box to the side of the wall, possibly put a non descript sconce that will light up the ceiling and around the room. or swag a light fixture from that point to the ceiling over the bed.
