Please help me decorate my dining room
Comments (17)Your new kitchen and DR spaces are so pretty! I can't offer anything as to the table, but just a word of caution about a bench. They seem to be trendy now and my son and DIL just bought a table and bench/chair set from CB for their new house. They had both sides of the family over for a housewarming and her brother (early 30's) said to me...under his breath....that the bench was very uncomfortable for a longer, family dinner. Think about it....how long would you be comfortable sitting at a picnic table on a hard bench with no back support? I say get nice chairs with upholstered seats....if you have kids you can always cover them with Sunbrella fabric for easier cleaning....See MorePlease Please help me decorate my great room...need to order furn
Comments (21)You asked: I hate it. The bottom one looks like someone took a traditional, wicker sofa and wrapped it in leather. Those very formal, old fashioned arms, and bun feet, don't go with the eclectic, casual style of the upholstery. The shape of the red sofas is much more appropriate, but it would be better in all leather. Leather is great with kids so long as they don't have sharp things in their pockets and can be trusted not to poke pencils into it. It cleans up with water and saddle soap. But it does stick to bare skin, and can get hot. It's nature's vinyl. Which is why they combine it with fabric. Bad move. Either be fabric or be leather. The weight and texture are too different and they rarely come out looking great, especially after some living happens. The red bench is cool! Less imposing than a sofa table (console), but with a lot of the same function. And it's folky and funky. My Aunt had the two sofas flanking the fireplace in her living room. It's a great conversation grouping, but not so much for TV watching. For that, especially for the kids who probably look at the screen more, you want a straight on view. You can do a big square, though. An L of couch and settee or second couch or loveseat, and a couple of small easy chairs that are easy to get around on the opposite side. You have your red chairs. I'm not sure if they're too big to allow people to walk by easily if you close up the square, but even so, you can always pull them over for company, and keep them by the piano for family time with running kids. Re Larry, have your other family members sit tested him? I totally agree about the shape. It's very tired. But that LOVE thing is important. Your family room couch should feel Ahhh to sit on. I'm sure it'll still be there though. Maybe you can find a similarly comfy couch in a more classic shape that will give you more breadth of possibilities. Comfort comes first, but it can be done with a little more style than poor Larry. ;-)...See MoreHelp me decorate my living room...please!!!!
Comments (2)Can you post a sketch of the floor plan with dimensions? That would be helpful. What is the opening over the sofa? Is that to the kitchen? Am I to understand correctly that you want a dining space as well as living space in this room? I think it's a grand space and can yield a fabulous room. I think those sofa's can stay and I love the rug....See MorePretty please help me get started on my laundry room layout :) :)
Comments (0)I'm baaaack!!! Thank you so much for helping me with my powder room, so on to the next dilemma. Any ideas or opinions are welcome (and begged for!). Figuring out where the sink and w/d go are the biggest decisions because it turns out plumbing is one of the first items the builder needs! The room is 15’ 4 “ long and 8’ 6” wide (from wall to wall) I’m sitting here with tracing paper and am already blocked!!!!! :) Hopefully my goals aren't too lofty: Passage way I’m hoping to have a passage way from the closet to get into the laundry room. I love the idea of coming in dirty and just taking my clothes off in the closet and walking them into the laundry room to hang dry or toss in the washer. At the very minimum I want a ‘pass' through so I don’t have to carry baskets or so I can toss in a wet bathing suit. I currently sort my clothes into different baskets as I take things off, so if I only have a pass through and not a walk through, maybe I would stack my baskets on shelves in a cabinet and have that cabinet accessible from the laundry side too. *I want a raised w/d *I’d like one deep counter for folding in which an entire shirt will mostly fit. *I rarely rarely sew, but I’d like a spot to sit and sew on a button or work on a stain etc. *I will want a space for a nice sized pull down ironing board *A big area for a drying racks (hanging and laying flat). I will consider getting a drying cabinet like this one, but it's completely not necessary http://staberdryingcabinets.com *I’d like to have space for a steam cabinet if they should perfect those. The reviews aren’t great. *I was hoping to have a rotary iron for linens, but I don’t know if it will fit. *If I don’t put in a rotary iron, I want a line to hang linens so I can use a garment steamer on them. *There is another area for housekeeping items, so I don’t need to store vacuums etc. If there is room, storing overflow items would be nice (extra tp, suitcases up high perhaps, linens/towels) The venting for the w/d will go through the roof, so the w/d can be placed anywhere in the room. I hear it’s more efficient for the sink and laundry room to be close for plumbing purposes....See MoreAngela Zuill
