Front porch redo on 1970s townhouse
Comments (13)Thanks I forgot to mention I'm on a budget and can only take on a bit at a time. I probably want to keep the sidewalk as it is for now. Right now the lanscape doesn't look like much since I cut everything back but I'm a big time natural/cottage type gardener with mostly native plants. The plantings will get much more lush and flowery in the coming months. That's one of the main things I wanted to know, is if I could re-use any of the existing stoop. I thought it would have to be broken up first. I'm also assuming it should be disconnected from rebar into the house foundation as well? Am wondering about safety concerns about the size of the step and what would be the best height, to avoid anyone tripping. Should there be a handrail? This is why I was thinking to use brick, to better show there is a step there. Also would reclaimed brick tile on top of the concrete be a good option? I still want to keep the same overall width of the stoop, to hold my potted plants, and maybe somehow incorporate some seating? Are you suggesting to increase the depth as well all the way to the sidewalk? Right now there is a strip of planting space there on the right side. But the 5' square idea does sound interesting....See More1970’s vinyl front porch in need of makeover!
Comments (14)Interesting. Have you pulled away any of that siding to see what is under there? I wouldn't be surprised to see brick. That look definitely reminds me of certain houses that belonged to brick laying families near where I grew up....See MoreExterior paint 1970's stone facade accent and garage questions
Comments (5)Yes. Maybe medium gray on the roof. As for the paint, all the houses on my street that have been repainted recently are various shades of grey. I was hoping to not be exactly like everyone else which is why the shade of blue. We are in the western half of Washington state so generally mild weather with clouds but we don't have AC so maybe not such a dark roof. I agree gray would be the better choice though. (Although smoky summers might mean we need to consider getting AC.)...See MoreCan you paint stone veneer to update the exterior of this 1970’s home?
Comments (7)Your stone is a beautiful color. I would not paint it. You should consider painting the rest of the house as well as the garage door. The posts on your porch need a bit of beefing up. Can you replace the posts with cedar or have them wrapped in wood? Find a color that you like in the stone face and paint the house that color. Then you have a starting point to look for an accent color to paint the trim and the shutters. Also, changing the light fixtures would give this house a needed update. Something with straighter lines would work better with your architecture....See Morekandrewspa
