gracie: I too had a hard time finding the perfect rug for my living room. I wanted something neutral in color. I ended going to a carpet dealer, ordered a piece of Karastan wool carpet and had it bound into an area rug. The wool binding I had to order directly from Karastan. I didn't want it bound with nylon - that looked cheap to me. I had an 8 x 10 rug made for just over $700. Much cheaper than buying a wool rug of the same size and it is exactly what I was looking for!

I have at least ten Oriental rugs of different sizes, and they do go with nearly every style. I would pick one with several different colors in your room, warm and cool, to set off all that light furniture in your beautiful space. Put one in the dining room, hall, family room, bedroom, wherever you have bare floors. With all your light wood rich and varied colors will look wonderful and give life and depth to your spaces.

I agree...lots of colors. The are pieces from other rooms in previous home. I don't care for the red wall. Walls were this color when we moved in. I can certainly paint the walls a different color altogether but I have the consider the rest of the house. My intended them was for a conversation/drinking room with chairs rather than couches. We hardly ever use this room but is at the home entrance. Trying to work with what I have and buy additional pieces to compliment. Do you think I can make it work with dark brown and camel leather chairs or should I start over? I was thinking a better rug would pull it all together. ??

Hi Everyone!! Forgive me, I din't know what I am doing here. Hope this works! Its Deb with updates to my Family Room project after all your wonderful feedback. Before you comment, yes the curtains are shorter but that is because I am having Crown Molding added in a couple of weeks. And its not the exact rug I had selected either. I ordered two rugs; rug I had originally selected called "Beige" and the other "Cream", I felt that the beige rug was a little to brown and didn't blend as nicely as the cream one I selected. The curtains drive me crazy with the wrinkles, it took forever to iron and then I hang them and they are wrinkled again. I ordered a hand steamer and once it arrives I will have at those curtains again. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank all of you for all of your responses and recommendations, especially those that worked late in the night helping me select a rug!! :) Without all of you I wouldn't have this new, bright, inviting look to my family room. I have had work done recently in my home and the compliments I received was incredible and coming from both men and women on top of that. I owe my sincere gratification to you all!
