Thanks for the input. We are finishing our walkout basement and it was originally my husband's idea to do the linear gas fireplace. Since out home is otherwise traditional, I was first not sure about going with such a transitional style -- but I am warming up to the idea. Pricklypearcactus, thanks for the link -- I had looked at houzz already for inspiration. We are torn about wheather to use marble, or stacked stone on the wall w/the fireplace or not. We have decided to just paint that wall an accent color (chelsea gray) and see if we think we need to add stone. We went with a model by Heat & Glo -- it is a radiant fireplace so does not have a blower, but still does throw some heat, we're told. I'd still love to hear from anyone who might have one -- or who has thoughts. I hope to post pics once it is in and room is finished.

How exciting! So, how do you envision your master bedroom? What are you thinking of for wall color / paper? Will the fireplace be raised, will it have a mantle / hearth? In our family room we moved the fireplace so got to start from scratch: I had Delft tiles painted of our children / pets as the four-sided surround (it's slightly raised so as to avoid having to do a hearth). I love it and while clearly it's incredibly taste-specific (not just the Delft but images of our family) I think of Delft as being a sort-of neutral (and definitely timeless); with many styles of decor Delft just goes. Clearly, if LeCorbusier is your guru then Delft would be ridiculous! But I'm guessing based on what you wrote he isn't .... When I'm ready to spend money again (ha ha), we'll be adding a(n electric) fireplace to our bedroom, and I'm pretty sure I'll be using leftover Calacatta marble as the surround. I am one of those who lust after marble and since we have a bit (from a kitchen remodel) I figure that equals a win win for me. I think using the same Carrara as your bathroom could be a beautiful way to unite the spaces into a suite. I also think using Delft tiles could be a wonderful way of injecting the warmth and personality (of those tiles) into your bedroom. I'll be interested in hearing more about your room.

OK, not pushing grey -- just don't want you to settle on something you don't like for such a large part of your room. The sectional we've had for about 13 years now is close to the color of that first close up. It is a very liveable color and goes well with blues and greens. Do look at the type of leather too. That RH sofa appears to be that kind (can't remember what they call it) that will start out looking distressed and just get more so. It will show every mark from kids and dogs - that's the look, so you have to embrace it. See how the cushion sides are already more crinkled than the sofa back? Kind of like having marble counters -- know you will live with patina and not perfection. That will work in your room, but you said you didn't like rustic so much so thought I should mention that. I like the idea of the mossy green. You don't see green leather often, so it definitely wouldn't be cookie cutter.

We have a two-sided fireplace. It's placed as you describe--next to the jetted tub. The big difference is that it faces the sitting area of our master and the toilet is contained in a little room with a door so there is no watching someone in there. We use it daily in the winter months and less frequently in the fall and spring. I often turn it on for a bit before I shower to make the bathroom extra warm. In the evenings we often watch TV in bed with the fireplace turned on. Because I work out of our our house I will frequently go to the sitting area with my laptop, turn on the fireplace and enjoy it. For us the expense has definitely been worth the money as we use it much more frequently than the wood burning fireplace in the family room.
